Evacuation at Actew/AGL House

Two floors of city building evacuated following strong smell ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire Brigade on scene at ACTEW/AGL house London Crt, City investigating a strong smell of a paint based product.

Approx 100 staff from two floors of the building have been evacuated.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics on scene to assess any patients that may become ill due to possible exposure.

ACT Fire Brigade investigating the cause. Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 1:42pm.

2:25pm Monday 31 January 2011

Update on two floors of city building evacuated following strong smell. Cause of strong paint smell from workman in the plant room on level 12.

ACT Fire Brigade due to depart shortly and will release building to property manger. Staff will be permitted to return inside shortly.

ACT Ambulance Service advise there were no injuries.

That’s a bit harsh! As if anyone would have wanted to evacuate their airconditioned office today when it was 38 degrees outside! The fumes must have been pretty bad to even consider leaving the building… unless the evacuation point is in a swimming pool or an airconditioned bar.
