Evatt and Florey shops getting the works

TAMS are after your thoughts on revamps to the Florey and Evatt shops:

Manager of Design and Development, Diana Hill, today invited members of the community to provide feedback on Florey shops and Evatt shops to help inform the forward design studies for the future upgrade of the public spaces at these shopping centres.

“Members of the community are invited to attend drop-in sessions where they will be able to share their experiences of the shops and use their local knowledge to help inform an improved design for the planned refurbishments,” Ms Hill said.

“The proposed upgrade of the shops will revitalise the areas, providing locals and traders with safer, more accessible and attractive centres. It will consider elements such as community gathering spaces, lighting, bike racks, landscaping and accessibility to the shops.

“I encourage anyone who visits Florey or Evatt shops to come along to the drop-in sessions and provide feedback. Alternatively, they can complete an online survey available at www.timetotalk.act.gov.au

I agree. The parking at Florey shops can be very bad at times, and I have witnessed this result into car park rage.
Years ago a guy from the super market stabbed another in car park rage: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-10-20/car-park-stabbing-accused-stands-trial/547850 which is kinda ironic as it’s all the super market employees that are clogging up the main car park.

My favourite piece of graffiti I’ve ever seen was at Evatt shops.

On the back of one of the shops in big red letters it said:

“All Abo Go Home!”

I swear I laughed for about 15 minutes straight.

You have to love those intellectual racists, lol.

Indeed, and I am sure they really are morons.

However aren’t Aborigines this continent’s first boat people, and thus actually do have an ancestral home elsewhere that they could in theory return to?

I thought that the theory was that it was mostly land bridge during the last ice age?

I wish Evatt and Florey residents well but it drives me nuts that Giralang residents STILL have no shops despite all the fine words by the government. We still have no outcome from the interminable legal processes. Justice delayed is justice denied. Giralang residents are really frustrated! Can anyone help?

I lived in Giralang for over 5 years, no shops that entire time, everytime it was a go ahead bloody superbarn and IGA would kill it. Living near the school and shops I just got sick of it, the area definitely went downhill with more deadshits wandering around and more idiots doing burnouts in the suburbs in that time.

As a Resident of a nearby suburb of Florey I use to frequent the shops a few times a week after work.
Parking at the shops on an evening is near impossible unless you are prepared to do lap after lap of the car park.
I contacted ACT parking many years ago to suggest that a bigger car park was required, to be informed that there is staff parking around the back of Dominos that is often empty. In that discussion I was also informed that a lot of the parking issues at Florey are because staff that work at the shops clog up the main car park (2 hour parking) all day instead of parking behind Dominos and keeping the main car park free for customers.
This somewhat annoyed me so I stopped shopping at Florey. Talk about biting the hand that feeds.

With Evatt – One improvement would be to remove that truck with the graffiti that lives in the car park.

It is owned by the newsagent and contains the newspaper wrapping and rolling equipment, so they can prepare newspapers for home delivery. it moves from where it is parked to the front of the newsagents and back in the early hours of the morning.

‘…the forward design studies for the future upgrade…’

Well, god forbid that we have backward ones.
