ACT Policing has arrested a 23-year-old Evatt man following a Northside pursuit last night (Monday, April 23).

About 10.35pm a City patrol was travelling along Ellenborough Street, Lyneham when they saw a green Ford Falcon travelling in excess of the posted 60km/h speed limit.

Police attempted to perform a traffic stop but the car accelerated away, driving through the suburbs of Kaleen, Giralang, Evatt and Melba.

The driver tried to escape police by mounting the curb and attempting to drive across the Melba ovals where the car collided with a drain, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

The pursuit ran for approximately six minutes and reached speeds in excess of 120km/h.

The driver and front passenger exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Police apprehended the two back passengers transporting them to City Police Station where they were interviewed.

Shortly after the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to police. He was charged with several traffic offences and will face the ACT Magistrates Court later today.

Hmm fair call. It seems they do. Although mostly just to seek assistance in tracking them down, it seems.

Well, obviously, why else would they? To say “The suspect driver’s skills were so mad we isn’t gonna get them after all”

They wouldn’t make a press release saying criminals are getting away, would they?

You don’t read too many of these press releases where the villan gets away. So why do they continually run?

I guess though that these blokes aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.

Maybe the driver was in posession of some illicit substances or other illegal item, and by fleeing the scene they got away, were able to dispose of the contraband, then hand yourself in to be charged with traffic offences only. In a situation like that, they might not be the sharpest tools in the shed to onlookers, but they save their own bacon.

Haha yeah, so I guess they do hear stories of people getting away and so they tried and were successful, but knew they couldn’t stay on the run forever, so they minimised the number of things they were charged for haha. Not that dumb really.

This sped past my house on Baddeley in Spence, and i’ve seen that car around my neighbourhood ( not sure if they are the people who live down the street, or if they are just friends/customers of the people down the road) the car and the police were smashing it top speed down my street, hope they caught some of them and cracked them where it hurts while no one was looking.

Give the Greens there way however and this blunt tool would have been able to terrorise the territory with impunity.

“The driver tried to escape police by mounting the curb and attempting to drive across the Melba ovals where the car collided with a drain, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.”

The dryness and matter of fact nature required for press releases often amuses me, this is a great example.
