Canberra Qwire brings sparkling fabulousness to The Q with SHOW TUNES
On the 22nd and 23rd of October 2016, The Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire will be performing a repertoire of favourite show tunes at The Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre that will have you singing all the way home. Show Tunes is Qwire’s largest production to date and it truly has it all: hope, love, triumph – and just a touch of despair (not every musical character has a happy story after all). Featuring standout moments from musicals old and new such as Evita, Les Miserables, Matilda, The Sound of Music and fourteen other greats, it’s a lifetime of shows packed into one night.
Musical director Leonard Weiss describes Show Tunes as: “a spectacular undertaking for Qwire – our largest show yet. Having the opportunity to spend an entire year honing our musicality and performance skills has made for a truly unique experience which I know that you will greatly enjoy.”
Now in its 23rd year, the Canberra Qwire continues to promote understanding and awareness for the city’s LGBTQI community through music. Through the support of the Canberra community, Qwire has grown from humble beginnings of just seven members to one of Canberra’s leading community choirs with over 80 singers from all ages and walks of life. Qwire has a varied repertoire and public concert schedule, including performances for AIDS benefits, Canberra’s SpringOUT festival and recent participation in the Out and Loud Choral Festival in Auckland, New Zealand.
