Canberra Wind Symphony: Blown Away!

| Canfan

Join the stunning Canberra Wind Symphony for an evening of musical brilliance, with contemporary works from extraordinary Australian and international composers, all with a fascinating story to tell.

With a Canberra Premiere, Australian Ralph Hultgren’s thrilling ‘White Noise’ (2011) opens the show. Yosuke Fokuda then takes us on an energetic journey with his 2006 ‘Belly Dance’ and ‘Renaissance Dance’ before the orchestra takes us into the exuberant world of ‘Danse Folatre’ (1987), the final vituosic work from the pen of the great American composer Claude T. Smith.

Vincent Persichetti’s fabulous ‘Divertimento’ (1951) features after interval before we head down the soulful Percy Grainger path with his timeless 1918 ‘Irish tune from County Derry’ and quirky ‘Shepherds Hey’. This feast concludes with ‘Celebration’, the seminal 1993 British work from Philip Sparke: a celebration indeed of the full power and texture the wind orchestra experience brings to lovers of the beauty and excitement of live music.

With 40 of the Capital Region’s finest professional players combining to bring only the best wind literature to the concert stage this dynamic orchestra, under the baton of their multi-awarded Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Geoff Grey, is taking its ever-growing audience to new heights with their personal approach to delivering a concert experience to remember. Quite simply – they’re captivating, engaging and brilliant!
