Peace Poles are monuments that feature the Universal Peace Message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”.
The first Peace Pole was developed by a Japanese man Masahisa Goi in 1955 and there are now over 250,000 peace poles scattered around the world.
As part of the Rotary 100 Down Under Centenary the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin proposed to see 100 Schools receive a Peace Pole donated by their local Rotary Club. This was an extension of the work undertaken from the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell.
The idea was inspired from the Warsaw World Peace Bell where Peace Poles are also distributed to schools and communities. 125 Peace Poles have been reserved by Rotary clubs with Peace Pole 100 of 100 being placed in Lennox Gardens Canberra on Sunday 21 March 2021. To date, over 231 Peace Poles has been launched to promote world peace.
Regular Peace Poles feature four languages all bearing the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”. Peace Pole 100 of 100 is an octagonal pole and features 15 languages with this same message in each of the languages to celebrate multiculturalism.
To celebrate the 2022 Harmony Day, eight languages bearing the same message have been added to the Peace Pole 100: Bengali, Farsi, Hindi, Nepali, Sinhalese, Swahili, Ukrainian, Urdu.
Wear your national costumes or something orange, ring the Peace Bell, share your friendship and appreciate the language.
