BAL Lawyers Breakfast Club connects like-minded professionals in Canberra to share updates and insights on how to make your business a better place to work.

Normally held at BAL Lawyers offices, Breakfast Club has moved online.

This month, BAL will continue to examine the impact of coronavirus for employers and HR professionals.

Rebecca Richardson, Associate from BAL Lawyers Employment Law and Investigations Group will talk about the federal JobKeeper package and explain how it will be implemented.

Rebecca says, “Last month we discussed the employment law implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. This month we continue to discuss COVID-19, its effects on business, and the emerging details of the JobKeeper package.

“We will give an outline of the JobKeeper amendments to the Fair Work Act, what JobKeeper means for businesses practically speaking, and give you information to assist with navigating this difficult time,” Rebecca said.

The seminar will review the new laws that are applicable to JobKeeper eligible businesses, including:

  • How much do you have to pay staff if they qualify for JobKeeper?
  • How many hours can staff work, if any?
  • Can you ask staff to take annual leave?
  • Do you have to give your staff notice if you are planning to stand them down or reduce their hours

All these questions and more will be answered. There will be time for Q&As after the session and registrants are encouraged to send specific questions before the session.
