This practical workshop takes its inspiration from the exhibition Jack, John and Kempsey, which has storytelling at its heart.

Participants are encouraged to view the exhibition, read Nigel Featherstone’s text about his father, and/or view Anna Georgia’s video prior to the workshop as a way to think about Jack’s style and pre-occupations and/or their own life story to generate narrative poems.

Kerrie will introduce participants to diverse examples of the narrative poem and help them identify its main features. Participants will undertake a series of writing exercises using prompts to generate text, which will be developed into poetic forms.

Techniques to revise and refine drafts will complement informal feedback.

At the end of the workshop, Participants will have a narrative poem or solid drafts for further revision. Kerrie will also touch on options for publication.
