Psychedelic Realism by Reg Mombassa is open until 20 February 2020. Photo: Martin Ollman.
Psychedelic Realism by Reg Mombassa is a dreamlike journey through landscapes, absurdity and the sheer magic of art. It documents decades of works from one of Australia’s most renowned artists.
With new additions, the exhibition showcases over 100 diverse pieces that include Reg’s favoured forms and themes; suburban and rural landscapes, graphic works and absurd allegorical narratives. The subject matters are wide-ranging and include recognisable characters from his prolific days as a Mambo artist. Think Australian Jesus and Space Monster, as well as robots, houses, and scenes of the Australian and New Zealand countryside. His Archibald-nominated piece is also featured amongst a series of self-portraits.
The exhibition is open free of charge to the public all summer, closing on Thursday 20 February.
