“The National” or “The Folkie”, as it is affectionately known, is a stalwart of the national cultural calendar. The 54th National Folk Festival will be held at EPIC from 9-13 April, providing a perfect way to spend the Easter weekend.

Bringing together people from all walks of life, the festival presents a perfect world of local food and drink, Community Co-op workshops, a dedicated kids festival, a colourful array of musicians and performers from across the globe, and so much more.

The 2020 Festival will play home to over 200 local and international acts across 11 exciting venues.

This year the Folkie presents 29 international acts from such as blues songstress Kyshona (USA), new-wave folk quintet Elephant Sessions (SCOT), BBC Radio “Folk Singer of the Year” Jon Boden (UK), and all-female Maori roots and dance ensemble Mama Mihirangi & the Mareikura (NZ), just to name a few.

Closer to home, Canberra-based Bentspoke Brewery Co. will be pouring the exclusively brewed “BentFolk” beer all weekend long, alongside local wine from Lerida Estate. Plus, an all-star cast of local and national acts including Indigenous songwriters such as Stiff Gins, and Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, country royalty Henry Wagons, Central Coast alt-pop trio Little Quirks, and Festival Youth Ambassador and Canberra favourite Lucy Sugerman, are set to take the stage.

A poignant addition to this year’s festival comes in a heartfelt response to this summer’s devastating tragedies- “Hope for Folk”. The Festival has reached out to support fire-affected Folk Festivals and will be hosting a range of artists who were originally programmed to play at the affected events, with 100% of proceeds from the “Hope for Folk” Stage and the adjoining bar going to fire affected communities.

Stimulating the senses, The Folkie is designed to inspire, enliven and entertain. From traditional and contemporary grooves to the quirky and the endearing, the festival is for everyone, whether they are young or old, locals or visitors, musicians or music lovers.

You don’t have to be Folkie to enjoy the Folk Festival.
