A former teacher from the Marist Brothers College has been accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy in the early 1980s.

Malcolm John Dickson, an 83-year-old from Maroubra in NSW, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday (26 October).

He had been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a male and two counts of buggery – which police said were the relevant charges at the time of the alleged offences.

The matter was adjourned until 23 November. No pleas were entered.

Earlier, police alleged Dickson had committed the offences while he was a lay teacher at Marist Brothers College in Pearce between 1980 and 1981.

The charges relate to an alleged incident at a Hughes apartment in August 1980 when he was 41.

Police suspect he may have continued to be a lay teacher in other Australian states after he left the ACT in 1981.
