Makes more sense in cost and efficiency terms.

Do “efficiency dividends” apply to the local council?

councils, unlike departments and agencies, are directly accountable to their electorate.

It does need to be larger, but doubling its size is ridiculous. It’s a stretch at the moment to find 17 decent candidates, let alone 35 of them.

A good compromise should be reached, taking into consideration the “tight fiscal situation” the CM keeps going on about. Make a slight increase to 21 (3×7 member electorates) at the next election then reassess after one term of government. Makes more sense in cost and efficiency terms.

I am in favour of the Assembly having more representatives than my primary school parliament had back in the day.

If an expansion guarantees improved performance and more sensible policies then bring it on.

Expand the Assembly AND have a council. Utopian bliss for all.

Then he’ll keep on asking the question until he gets an answer that damn well suits him.
