Did anyone else hear a loud explosion around 3.30am last night (morning of the 26th April). It shook our house and woke up my 1 year old son and I (mother slept soundly).

Thanks.

If only someone would ban consumer fireworks so this never happens again!

Oddly, when I was in my early teens (before access to teh interwebz), produced varied loud and toxic results by mixing any number of chemicals (and we had access to fireworks). If anything I think kids these days do that kinda thing less. Maybe it is because of the media telling them they will die or go to Gitmo, but I think it is because they are the iPhone generation, and if they can’t download an app and make a bang in two minutes or less they loose interest.

Is there a bomb making app?

Armless fun. Hehehehe…Sweet. 🙂

Make sure you hand the yoof back their eyebrows and or digits if you find them.

Yes. They’ll do a few, make a mistake and you won’t hear any more from them.

There are plenty of common household chemicals that when combined correctly make an interesting bang. I did a few when I was about 15, but generally took it to a nearby river reserve to avoid hassles.

Top tip: Small amounts in well contained spaces give the best results. Stand well back.

There was another in the area tonight at about 9pm… didn’t hear one last night, but having a newborn in the house means I could sleep through an earthquake… (thanks God, but I don’t need that tested). It IS school holidays though, and we know what those poorly supervised yoof like to get up to…

New to the area? While not a regular occurrence, It isn’t unusual around here… have seen some older kids using potato cannons around Macgregor West in the past… I live in the area of Dunlop nearest MacWest…

Hahaha. I’ve got 4 kids, so I know how this works. Here’s how I reckon things actually went down.

Something detonated somewhere near you.

You woke up after the detonation and thought WTF? 1 year old son woke up after the detonation, thought WTF? and started howling. Mum woke up after the detonation and thought “If I pretend to have not heard that humungous explosion that just shook our house, he’ll think I’m asleep and he’ll go put the screaming baby back to sleep”. Mum lay there motionless, breathing deeply.

You staggered off and put the screaming baby back to sleep.

It’s just the way the world works.
