Minister for the Environment, Simon Corbell, is seeking expressions of interest from members of the public to help advise the ACT Government on climate change policy.

“I encourage anyone with a strong commitment to addressing the challenges from climate change to consider making an application to join the ACT Climate Change Council,” Mr Corbell said.

“The members of the ACT’s first Climate Change Council have engaged with business and the community and provided me with considered, strategic and useful advice on matters relating to climate change.

“The council, led by inaugural chair Professor Barbara Norman, plays a key role in shaping our thinking on climate change policy for the territory.

“I am seeking interest from people with relevant expertise and a passion for sustainability to support the government’s work in transforming our city into a low carbon economy and increasing its sustainability.”

Council members will represent a variety of groups, including community, business and people who are socially or financially disadvantaged, and across multiple interests such as climate change science, environmental management, the built environment and transport.

Council members are appointed by the minister for a three-year term and receive a sitting fee when they meet. Appointments commence from the first meeting in November 2014, with approximately four meetings per year.

Applications close on Sunday 3 August 2014.

I reckon Clive Palmer would be a shoe in…………

Yeah, Clive has a private jet, just like Al Gore. These are excellent credentials for warmists.

Is a “passion for sustainability” really wanted? I would have though a dispassionate approach would be more convincing.

Let’s hope they keep a close and pragmatic eye on the important question of baseload power supply, as we head towards the 90% renewables target.

isn’t there a federal dept ?

No. That’s the Coal Promotion Board you’re thinking of

isn’t there a federal dept ? why do we need another local dept to kill jobs and push up prices.

Wasn’t it axed? Not that I think the local council should be wasting its time and our money on this.

Maybe the Federals have been corrupted by reading Alan Jones and listening to Rupert.
Not many juristrictions like the Grand Duchy Of Canberra can boast 90% renewables.

So they want to pay people with strongly held opinions to talk about those opinions. Sounds good!

Or perhaps they want people that understand the problems with climate change, carbon reduction technology and economics? It’s probably not that useful to have people whose opinions are formed by reading Rupert “windmills-and-all-that-rubbish” Murdoch’s newspapers or listening to Alan Jones, leave that for the Coal-ition’s advisors.

Fair point, but I hope that it’s not just dyed-in-the-wool greenies who get on this thing, but rather a group with diverse skills, qualifications and positions.

Agreed

“diverse skills, qualifications and positions.”
Sounds like climate alarmists to me.
And what the hell is an EOI?

isn’t there a federal dept ? why do we need another local dept to kill jobs and push up prices.

The EOI has four selection criteria none of which are possession of strongly held opinions.

I suppose “people with relevant expertise” would rule me out?

But ‘The Spokesperson for All People’ would rule you back in surely?

In which case you would be a cert.

Well thank you, that’s very kind of you but entirely undeserved. I only speak for myself and sometimes not even then
