Extra ACT voters

By johnboy - 19 August 2010 6

The Australian Electoral Commission has announced that following GetUp!’s High Court win there are now 247,659 enrolled electors in the ACT.

This is up from 246,436, so a gain of 1,223.

Interestingly the youth age groups are not overwhelmingly represented in the gains:
18: +157
19: +105
20-24: +199
25-29: +224
30-34: +175

So more about grown ups moving to town and forgetting to update their details?

What’s Your opinion?

Hey, from where I sit, youth is relative. Anyone under 40 is youth, so it looks overwhelming to me!

Cheers from Shanghai, Rioters. I’m looking forward to the election and will be turning to Riotact for updates as the night rolls on.

It’s a skew, but to call it overwhelming I’d need to see 50% of the new enrolments in the 18 and 19, but that’s just me.

Johnboy, I have to disagree with your conclusion that youth groups are not overwhelmingly represented in these results. There was a total increase of 1223. The total of the groups you have listed is 860. Thus there is only another 360 for ALL persons aged over 35. The total of 18 & 19 year olds alone is more than one fifth of the total (21%). No doubt left wing groups, GetUp and the Greens would be happy with that.
