It might be easy to forget today that the SkyWhale isn’t the only piece of art paid for by the centenary, but it is not!

There are other things!

This is one of them, and it’s pretty cool too!

Knowing that someone has painted a portrait of the Soup Kitchen Lady makes me very happy.

“Faces of Canberra” is a series of portraits by Canberra artist Barbara van der Linden, depicting the people of Canberra who make it an interesting and unique place to live.

This 3 year Canberra Centenary Project consists of around 25 paintings and is a celebration of these people and the contribution they have made to the Canberra Community.

The “Faces of Canberra” exhibition is now on at M16 Artspace, until 26 May, 2013.

It would be amazing if these were also digitised for those of us away from home. 🙂

Something is amiss here, this publicly funded art project may provide Canberrans with viewing pleasure..

THIS ISN”T ART!

It’s not controversial, it doesn’t get people talking about Canberra, it has something to do with Canberra, it’s a waste of money.

I love the Skywhale, it’s like they decided to well and truly troll all those buttoned-down types who think that the only worthwhile art is staid paintings of worthy old rich men.

What? Recognisable paintings of real people? Someone needs to challenge themselves, and take a step outside their comfort zone

My eyes are so thankful. Looks like a great series of works!
