Simon Corbell, in his capacity as Manager of Government Business in the Legislative Assembly is throwing a spectacular tantrum that the democratically elected Assembly is having the temerity to not pass every Bill or Motion his Government throws before it.

The ACT Greens and Liberals have gone on strike, and are blocking the passage and debate of important motions and bills in the ACT Legislative Assembly, Manager of Government Business Simon Corbell, said.

“The Opposition and Crossbench have gone on strike and are putting political strategy ahead of the best interests of the community,” Mr Corbell said.

Maybe you need to start talking to them instead of shouting at them Simon.

Nothing’s getting past until you get the numbers on the floor.

This media release is actually about the fact that the Liberals and Greens didn’t debate the Government bills that the Government introduced and then wanted to debate in the same sitting period. But the Assembly standing orders say that a party can’t do that, unless it makes a case that the bill is urgent (and there are good reasons for the standing order – eg it allows time for community consultation about a new bill). So when the Libs and Greens simply upheld the standing orders, the Govt put out this media release trying to say the other parties have ‘gone on strike’. It’s just silly politics.

The ALP-Greens partnership appears to be maturing well.

*Waits for Meredith’s response to Simon’s spray.*

What about abusing misdirected sarcasm? I thought that’s what the RiotACT was all about…!

but we can still abuse the pollies, right?

I’m going to have to ask you guys to make your points without abusing other commenters.

vg, you are a tosser.

A part of me wishes that the liberals had formed government instead, so we could all sit back and watch the Assembly and the city implode in spectacular fashion.

We could have had a dream-team coalition government, just imagine….his royal doucheness Zed as leader, Meredith as treasurer, Caroline could have planning…

Real mature, vg. Why don’t you go crawl back under the rock you came from.

Someone should explain to the ALP that they won 37.4% of the vote, which means that more than 62% of people didn’t actually vote for them.

Suck it up, Simon

Will he get depressed again?

Both, I’m sure.

Simon still has a majority hangover.

“Combover”, surely?

……..If Labor don’t buck up quickly and realise that this is democracy in action, they’re going to get a real shock at the next election.

You reckon????

They’ve been acting like this for the past few years, and yet they still keep getting voted back in.

Is it any wonder that ACT Labor treat ACT voters with utter contempt if the electorate keep mindlessly voting for them even though they treat the Legislative Assembly like some tinpot dictatorship.

I didn’t realise that opposition parties had to show unwavering support?

If Labor don’t buck up quickly and realise that this is democracy in action, they’re going to get a real shock at the next election.

I reserve comment until I find out the why. It’s a bit much to believe that the Liberals and Greens are blocking these, simply to twiddle their thumbs.
