The Phoenix is a mecca for Canberra’s boho fringe, a place in the bus interchange where toothless old men and hip young school of art types mix with disreputable bloggers over pints and lashings of original live music.

Singer songwriter Konrad Lenz has been taking pictures in the Phoenix since 2005 and has sent in a selection for your enjoyment, edification, and to see if you’ve made the cut.

I love the Phoenix.

Bohemian feel and definitely my favourite place to play.

+1

Only place in Canberra that reminds me of my old haunts in Newtown, Glebe etc.

Also it’s one of the few places I feel reasonably safe at all hours – no one’s going to knock you out for looking at them the wrong way or stepping on their toes, not that I’ve experienced anyway. No cashed-up bogans either! But then there’s the bus interchange outside to deal with … 🙁
