A 24-year-old Bruce man will face court today after assaulting three people and threatening them with broken glass in a restaurant last night (Sunday, August 4).

About 9.20pm the man entered the Red Chilli Sichuan Restaurant on Alinga Street in Civic, requesting food. The man was told they were closed and asked to leave however refused to do so.

Police will allege that the man damaged property in the restaurant by smashing plates and glassware and assaulted staff members with the broken glassware.

At one point a staff member was held down by the man with a piece of broken glass held to their neck, prior to other staff intervening.

The man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court later today charged with three counts of common assault, possess offensive weapon with intent, trespass and property damage.

Hope everyone’s okay, dude needs a Snickers.

He needs a hot lead injection. Going into someone’s place of work and terrorising them. It’s a shame the movie-stereotype kung fu chefs with meat cleavers didn’t come out the kitchen and sort him out.

He was OK until the restaurant refused to split bills for credit cards on the weekend.

“I submit that my client has mental health problems, substance addiction problems, both his parole officer and his social worker say he’s a very good boy normally, and that daddy didn’t hug him enough. He has been diagnosed with oppositional behaviour disorder, and his school let him down. His unemployment since the age of 16 has led him to be disenfranchised from his community.I therefore ask that the court look leniently on the poor downtrodden victim of society.”

Agreed, we therefore sentence him to two months weekend detention.

Agreed, I feel very sorry for the workers.

But I think he needs a stay at the Hume Hilton more than a snickers. Lets see how our magistrates respond, presuming the person is found guilty. And if they show any consideration to the victims of the crime.

Agreed- my comment in hindsight was flippant. I too hope he gets some quality alone time in Gaol.

another fine example of the human race…throw the book at him. hope all the workers are ok but they will probably take time to recover (emotionally) even if they’re not physically harmed

Was there anything they had that the scumbag couldn’t have replicated by shoplifting some tenderloins and a bag of MSG from Supabarn? Absolutely pitiful what some crims will do these days. If you’re going to harm a business and traumatise people, at least choose a target where the benefit is in some proportion to the cost.

It’s actually quite scary, the convention used to be that to avoid crime, you make the potential benefit too small to be tempting. But these days they’ll beat people up for a fiver.

Nope. They’ll all rally around the bad guy – ‘cos that’s where the money is.
