Hi Rioters

With Governments in holiday mode, now is probably the time for us all to read up on some of the issues that bug us about bureaucracy all year, so we are ‘armed and dangerous’ (ie, informed) members of the electorate!

Therefore, for your interest, I attach a link to an ABC Background Briefing radio program, ‘Housing for Millions,’ that comprehensively summarises many of the grievances aired regularly on this forum, and the links between them – including NIMBYism, planning issues, housing density, urban sprawl, community.

Interesting read, thanks for posting the link. I learned a new expression, Fonzie Flat. Is that term used here too? I know there are places with over-the-garage flats for sale in Gungahlin. Is there really such a demand for that type of housing? I find them quite depressing, unlike Fonzie’s flat over the garage in the Cunningham’s garden the Gungahlin version seems to be in concrete canyons. I know not everyone has the time or inclination to tend to a personal garden but I don’t think it’s good for the soul to live without greenery.
