Farmers’ Markets Forum

By johnboy - 23 August 2010 2

Farmers’ Markets are hot. The legendary website “Stuff White People Likeput them fifth.

So if you’re one of the faithful who schedule their week around getting to the Farmers’ Markets before all the good stuff is gone at 8.01am on a Saturday then it might be worth checking out the public forum on Wednesday on “Community Gardens and Farmers’ Markets” which comes with the blurb:

There is a growing awareness of the benefits of community gardens and farmers’ markets. They both contribute to community building, sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. Fresh locally grown produce has benefits for our health and our environment.

Speakers include the President of the Canberra Organic Gardening Society, Keith Colls, and the Director of the Farmers Market Committee, Clive Badelow of the Hall Rotary Club.

It’s at St Ninian’s Uniting Church, on the corner of Mouat & Brigalow Streets in Lyneham.

What’s Your opinion?

Yeah, heaven forbid someone talk about something you like to do using words like ‘awareness’ or ‘community’ or ‘sustainability’. People might think you’re a hippy too, and we can’t have that.

If anybody asks, just say you like the big shed and all the trucks and utes.

Or could it be that people just like good grub, and can appreciate the stuff on sale at the markets, without going all hippy over it?

I know I can/do.
