Upgrades to the Tuggeranong Parkway have been brought forward three years to 2022, with $51 million of Federal money released as part of the mid-year budget update.

There will also be a further $24 million available for road infrastructure across the ACT.

Liberal ACT Senator Zed Seselja said the funding, announced as part of the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO), would kickstart projects to relieve congestion and get Canberrans home sooner and safer right across the Territory.

“No matter where you live – be it Tuggeranong, Woden Valley, Belconnen, or Gungahlin – we are delivering for Canberrans,” Senator Seselja said.

“Major upgrades to the Tuggeranong Parkway have been fast-tracked by three years, with works now set to get underway from 2022.

“The $51 million package from the Liberal-National Government will deliver a series of congestion-busting upgrades along the Parkway and surrounding roads for the 40,000 cars travelling to and from Canberra’s south each day.”

There will also be $18 million worth of upgrades at key intersections in Griffith, Theodore, Conder and Weston.

“Canberrans who use Boboyan Road will also benefit from a $5 million package to deliver road re-surfacing and widening, soil stabilisation and drainage works, providing improved access through Namadgi National Park during bushfire seasons,” Senator Seselja said,

The 2021 MYEFO also includes $41.9 million to support the National Film & Sound Archive save at-risk collections and $5.7 million for the National Library of Australia’s Trove website.

Australia faces a federal election in 2022.

Must be tough for some people to decide which button to press here:

“Zed never does anything for the ACT”

“Zed is just trying to bribe us, this is pork barrelling”.

Decisions, decisions.

I would think even the most left or right winger nutter would agree it is a bit of column A and a bit of column B. Of all pollies we have in the ACT this one is the most useless but a long shot. Even comparing to Mark Parton or Mick Gentleman.

JC,
I can’t see how Zed is worse than Katy. Both are almost invisible.

It’s a function of being an ACT Senator, they have almost zero power or influence whether in government or opposition.

And really, a lot of blame for that can only be directed in one direction. Towards the rusted on voters of Canberra who make our seats so safe (both HOR and Senate) that the government need pay us little attention.

Nothing different about ACT voters there, Chewy. Apply voting proportions from any State to two senators rather than six or twelve and you will be guaranteed the same one-each result. The problem lies in too few senators here or too many elsewhere; or both.

Phydeaux,
I know, which is why I also mentioned our House of Reps members. The last time we had anything but an ALP member there was the mid 90’s and only then for a year because of Roz Kelly’s whiteboard.

Although I’d agree that the ACT should have more Senators, at least that might give us a bit more interest.

An upgrade to 3 lanes each way north/south from Ginnenderra to Hindmarsh would address the traffic jams around the on/off ramps and let pass by. Perhaps a thru lane west/east with no turn off into the City would help. But 10 lanes into Civic itself would just make a wider traffic jam.

Independant candidate announces + Zed feels a bit threatened = Bucketful of money.

And now for 3 years of traffic jams. Damn I thought I might win the lottery before 2025 and not need to use that road ever again.

Zed feeling threatened. Stop making me laugh. It hurts.
Mr Pocock is competing against the Greens candidate and others to the Left of Katy G.
Conservative voters aren’t going to ditch Zed and vote for a Leftie.
The Senate result will be 1 ALP & 1 Lib, that’s the way it rolls here.

Lol!! What timing!!!

Guess what, folks, they’re trying to bribe us!! Don’t fall for it. We need Seselja out of the Senate!!

You Zed haters never give up, do you.

Just out of curiosity, if Katy G’s party offers funding for an ACT project (should they win power), would that also be a bribe? If so, I guess we need Katy out of the Senate.
Just accept the money and be thankful.
Yes, I agree the roadworks will suck, particularly when the ACT Government are creating train related road chaos.

Kenbehrens,
You mean like the last election where the ALP offered to pay $100 million for the light rail no matter what the economics said about its viability (or more accurately lack of)?

Apparently that was a good thing.

More money on the tug Parkway is probably warranted but then So is a bridge instead of a weir at Coppers crossing, we’re been waiting five years. Either give the bridge priority or refrain from selling more land in Whitlam until it’s done. Also reduce all the rates in the Molonglo Valley until basic facilities are provided.

If I understand this correctly, the Feds are doing major road works on the Tuggeranong Parkway in ’22 AND the ACT Government is planning to commence major roadworks raising London’s Circuit by 9 metres (for Light Rail) in ’22.

The ACT Government have already created a traffic nightmare at Woden for the new Bus/Light Rail interchange impacting Launceston St and closing Callum Street.

Can anyone else see any potential traffic problems for people heading south from the City?

You’re forgetting the good bit, they’re making Commonwealth Ave single lane for years while they build their stupid tram to Woden (that will eventually deliver slower, more expensive travel). So the Parkway will be blocked, Adelaide Ave will be blocked — presumably all southside traffic will be trying to turn off the Monaro Hwy, probably blocking that as well. Should be great!

I presume it’s for the northern end of Tuggeranong parkway. Parkes way after glenloch interchange is also in dire need of upgrading.

I don’t know how it will cope over the 5 years building Light Rail stage 2.

North of the Glenloch Interchange is Caswell Drive….

I think you misread my comment. I said northern end of the Tuggeranong Parkway not north of Glenloch interchange.
