Ferguson goes full Carney

Yesterday’s man Blake Ferguson is putting together a fair old rap sheet in the Canberra Times.

Another complete toolbag emerging from the Raiders youth development.

They really need to look very hard at that.

I don’t particularly care anymore as the Canberra Raiders are no-longer going to be part of the finals yet again. I have just watched the Raiders directing traffic toward their own try-line, this time its the Warriors piling on points.
Stop blaming Ferguson, Carney, Dugan and whoever else and start looking at the problem, the administration is the problem – put them under the lens!
I have followed the Raider since they joined the competition and the problem starts and finishes there.
Don’t blame the players, they all leave Canberra to be superstars with other clubs time to wake-up and look around.

The bloke is a dickhead. Spoilt little knob that has been told over and over how good he is. But he’s not. Seriously, what has he done? He played rep footy in a time when NSW can’t win a thing. He was s*** in Origin. He got his chance because everyone else was s***ter, not because he is good. Simple errors and not focussed and doesnt respect the ball. But being told its all good.
Then gets off the field, errors, not focussed, no respect. Now another club comes along and will say its all good.
Blake Ferguson will be again left thinking, I must be good, no need to change, I am the s***. No Blake.
Just s***.

They should just play him at Mounties for the rest of his contract. If he doesn’t want to turn up to training or rehab or whatever then fine him or dock his wages. If he plays up outside the club (arrests etc) then fine him the maximum allowed and get the NRL to suspend him.

But don’t cave and reward good behaviour by flicking him. These guys are acting up because it is a way to get themselves to another club. He was happy to sign the contract, hold him to it.

I’d had a similar thought too. The problem here is that he’s got a release clause in his contract that was triggered when the coach got sacked. God knows why he doesn’t just activate the clause if he wants out so badly.

If nothing else, I hope the Raiders and other clubs start to think a lot harder before accepting these type of clauses in contracts. They’re a joke, especially these ‘If the coach goes I can go too’ clauses.

It’s wishful thinking, but I’d love to see the next clause in this clown’s contract be something along the lines of ‘if we have to sack you because you’re acting like a dickhead, you’re not allowed to join another club until your contract with us is over’.

My mail is the clause is in his new contract (begins on Nov 1) not his current contract. So he needs to play the bad boy to get out now.

Back in the day people played for the love of the game and if they made some bux then good but the main driver was the love of the game, the mateship and the devotion to the team they played for. Seeing the oldtimers sniffing around their old clubs helping out etc bears witness to this.
Now that the game is driven by money out goes loyalty. So the game is now professional, therefore all players should act professional. In any profession if you dont meet the code of conduct you are out – sometimes out of the profession depending on what that profession is. Every profession will always have their bad eggs but key minimising the risk is recruiting the right guys in the first place. Fair enough the demographic to draw from is a testosterone driven, fun loving alcohol drinking age group and that is what makes it difficult, but is all the more reason to put more effort into recruiting processes. These could include background checks and psychological profiling similar to ‘the forces’ that also draws from a similar demographic. Then you wont probably need a no alcohol policy in the contract. An overarching code of conduct would cover that – drink on the job and your sacked.
So if you want your club to have less issues then get professional yourselves on how you sign these boys up.
This might help getting a bunch of loyal, professional acting boys on board. Might not win all the time but team spirit and stability will be maintained and you know that all the boys will turn up each week not pissed and fight for their country (team).

Its ok to dream! Sheesh!

A no alcohol clause would quickly lead to a no player situation.

Sorry Johnboy, but I don’t agree. There are heaps more potential players out there, compared to the number of professional positions available. If the current batch of professional players don’t want to sign to a ‘no alcohol’ clause, I suspect there would be many more who would be happy to take their places.

In respect to the no alcohol policy – I agree that they should be banned from drinking during the season and if they do, it needs to be minor drinkage at club events only. For heavens sake, what is the problem with drinking water. The majority of women who choose to have children find abstinence from alcohol pretty easy – for over a year in most cases. Compare that to the footy season and it makes any of these extraordinarily privileged young men who can’t go without a drink for the good of his chosen career look like utter tossers.

As an aside, any decent recruiting process should help to filter out the potential bad eggs. Perhaps the Raiders recruitment policy needs to focus on more that just player ability.

After all their high profile players with alcohol problems over the years, who’ve caused untold damage to the club and the team, it is amazing that their standard contract lacks a “no alcohol” clause. At the very minimum, when they decided to boot Dugan and retain Ferguson, he should have been contractually required to abstain from alcohol completely.

A no alcohol clause would quickly lead to a no player situation.

Most of the rest of the population manages to drink without getting into this kind of trouble.

But if one thinks back to Noa Nadruku and Ricky Stuart the problem is not new.

white trash

I agree these blokes are fools.

But fairs fair – if you’re going to bag the Raiders fools, JB, at least do the honourable thing and do the same with the Brumbies. Your silence on the Brumbies fools in O’Connor recently was piss weak.

+1 Blake Ferguson is from Bankstown .
after breaking news Sandor Earl not part of the youth development system either.

Players who commit these offences should be put on a sub $100k wage for a few years, regardless of the club or contract. the rest of the money they should get paid goes to a charity or something. Problem is canberra will release him, he’ll go get big money elsewhere.

What I find amusing is that he was caught driving a Yaris. That aside, he, like a number of other ex-Raiders players, are, to say the least, little more than Neanderthals. Equally as disappointing is that he’ll quite possibly be given the opportunity to display his on field talent at another club.

So Ferguson of Dorkuson fame on ‘approved’ compassionate leave gets booked at Mittagong at 2.15pm, continues the trip (someone else hopefully driving now) and arrives at Long Bay no earlier than 3.30pm to see the old boy released from the can. Spends an hour with him before making his way to meet Carney to get on the piss. Love him or hate him at least he had the decency to uphold family values and spend quality time with the old boy! cough-bullshit-cough .(assuming the Prison do process releases on weekends)

As an aside, any decent recruiting process should help to filter out the potential bad eggs. Perhaps the Raiders recruitment policy needs to focus on more that just player ability.

…Never mind, we’ll all have the last laugh when these morons hit 35+ and can’t play football anymore, have spent all their money on alcohol/drugs, and have all the employment prospects of a sedimentary rock.

At which point they become everyone’s problem. Hooray. Sad, grey blokes perched at the club bar using their remaining neurons to “I coulda been a contender” everyone else and bitch about how their ex-cheerleader missus keeps hassling him for child support for a kid he suspects isn’t is anyway.

I dunno about Ferguson, but that Grayson Goodwin bloke is an absolute legend! What an inspirational figure! What a totally self-evident genius! And yet still only a Pancho, to Ferguson’s Cisco Kid….a Tonto, to his Lone Ranger!!

And “Grayson Goodwin”, too, stone the crows and starve the flamin’ lizards A man can’t help his name, but stuff me, what a moniker! And with brothers Bronx and Bryson of all things!!! They should all be appearing in Downton Abbey, with handles like that.

Laugh? I nearly sh*t!

Ferguson goes full Carney…

That’s unfair – he was speeding and unlicensed, but not drunk.

The way I see it, the main problem is that when a club like The Raiders finally sacks these worthless gangsta-wannbe amoeba, another less scrupulous club always seems to pick them up faster than a well-known Labor politician can misuse a corporate credit card to pick up hookers.

Obviously good hand/eye coordination matters more than good social skills and having a brain bigger than a sparrow’s eyeball!

Never mind, we’ll all have the last laugh when these morons hit 35+ and can’t play football anymore, have spent all their money on alcohol/drugs, and have all the employment prospects of a sedimentary rock.

I said it about Carney, and I said it about Dugan. Now I’ll say it about Ferguson. He’s a d!ckhead and we’re better off without him. Yes, it pains me when they turn up at Bruce and play well against the Raiders, but not so much that I think any of them are worth keeping and putting up with their crap. They’re all brainless idiots.

Why is this so? Can we blame the Raiders youth development program? Probably not, but rather the culture of NRL that takes these young, not very bright blokes and gives them too much money and time on their hands.

+ lots.

Young hooligans paid too much money for doing too little work and told that they are invincible far too often.

I do recall some time ago, reading of a team that had an agreement with a local building contract that gave their young players an apprenticeship on a part time basis. It taught them the value of having a real job and gave them something to fall back on if they didn’t make it in the big boys league.

Don’t think that the Raiders don’t do this also – I know someone who takes on their boys. The feedback I hear is that the Raiders don’t really care about the young men getting any meaningful qualification – if they pass or fail – just that they are seen to be doing the right thing.

Ferguson was signed from the Sharks, so not part of the Raiders’ development system.
