It wasn’t like that 20 years ago. Sunday nights (when Monday was a public holiday) used to be huge nights out. Yes that was nightclubs only but jeez Dickson was packed to the brim and had a really good atmosphere.

Tourists in Civic last night really did see how boring central Canberra can be.

They can’t put on a Festival every weekend!

Traditionally in Canberra long weekends and school holidays are very very quiet, as everyone leaves town for the coast or the snow.

Building endless unit blocks in Civic may have enlivened the place during term time, but as the students and young couples disappear ‘back home’ for the holidays, they leave civic dead as a doornail. Creating a vibrant city is not as simple as just removing all parking, building loads of units and the odd skyscraqper.

Why was there nothing on this weekend? I was walking through Civic last night at about 8pm and it was dead. Drove up to Dickson which was really full.

Yes it is still a bit cold but I’m sure some kind of festival could’ve been put on last night to get people into Civic.

Multicultural Festival, Nara Candle Festival? Or are they funded from other sources?
