The ABC is fretting that Australia’s quest for gold in the London 2012 Olympics is being threatened by Queanbeyan’s pumping of untreated sewage into Canberra’s waterways:

Rowing Australia CEO Andrew Dee says it is a major disruption to the elite rowing program at the AIS National Rowing Centre of Excellence.

“We have no idea when our athletes will be allowed back on the water and we have a National Talent Identification Camp starting here next week,” he said.

“In early January, all our 2012 London Olympic Games hopefuls start coming into camps.”

Mr Dee says it could derail planning for the London Olympics.

Keep in mind this is not the same as blue-green algae which they’ve decided is OK for rowing and sailing on.

Saw the news item about this last night, with the puff-piece reporter earnest in her reporting that the rowers have nowhere to go and may have to consider relocating.

Hmmmm. Am I seeing things when I take Ginninderra Drive out towards Charnie or wander out near Greenway? I could swear last time I looked that there were two perfectly good flat bodies of little-used water in Canberra that haven’t been subject to the vagaries of Queanbeyan arseholes (yes literally for once).

Or does my interpretation of a long flat body of water somehow not meet the exacting standards of the Olympic rowing teams?

Oi, I resemble that comment, I’m a vague Queanbeyan arsehole…

So, Im confused.. do they have nowhere to go, or are they relocating? The two seem contradictory to me.

These are national olympic athletes, its not like any of them might have hometowns that have lakes that arent affected like ours, is it? Seriously, who ever knew that the olympic rowing team trained here anyway? Maybe theyre unable to use google to find the numerous other rowing centres around the state..

One also has to wonder, even if the water wasnt polluted, how much practice would they be getting in this weather?

Adding sewage to LBG is just one small way that Queanbeyan is helping Canberra improve.
