Filthy’s closed?

By Thumper - 25 March 2010 18

I just received an email this morning informing me the Filthy McFadden’s has closed. Can anyone from over that way confirm this?

What’s Your opinion?

I’d heard a rumour that staff at Filthys/Phoenix hadn’t been paid in a while, never a good sign.

It would be awful to lose the Phoenix. Sure, it’s tiny, and it smells awful, and there are weird people there, but it’s the Phoenix. Say it ain’t so! I’ve lost count of the amount of awesome weekends that began with apres-work friday beers at The Phoenix.

I’m curious though, if it does close, but then reopens, what can possibly rise from the metaphorical ashes of something that was already called Phoenix?

If the phoenix was ever to close or sell there are a number of individuals who would reopen it. The pay / stock/ staffing issues have been ongoing for a while across the three pubs.

I do hope the joint reopens. Canberra is sorely lacking in pubs with a bit of character.

May well be still undergoing a change of ownership – not much will happen in the near future about renovations or changing the look. However, it is understood, once the new owners can work things through regarding the contracts with the owner of the building, all should progress and the Filth will be revived!

It’s going to be a Chinese restaurant.

Also, many bands are smartening up to amount of money they can make in other venues, where places actually charge for entry, eg, look at the number of bands (interstate and local)who used to play the phoeno who have now moved on to venues that have a cover charge rather than free entry. Oh Barons of Tang! So sad so so sad. Even though I will miss the bands, especially some of the interstate / overseas touring acts, who used to play the pheono / filthys, I am glad they are finally getting paid more.

It has closed. Love the “closed for renovations” sign. It will not reopen, the lease is almost up, and poor management / ownership ran it into the ground. Wait and see for more of the trinity to close.

Zzzzzz…..

Hopefully its not one of those “closed for renovation” notices which are common around town, and actually mean “we can’t pay the rent and the landlord has locked us out”

Would be great if it reopened with a more band friendly set up and better sight lines. Any more than the three Feldons on stage and its a squeeze!

It’s a good live gig so I hope it opens again soon. Maybe the renos are making it more band friendly? here’s hoping.

Played an awesome gig there with Waterford late last year and it went off.

Just closed for renovations according to the sign in the window. No indication of when it will re-open.
