Finally - The heat goes on and the Rugby boys get serious about a national competition

A document has come into our hot little hands. It’s great news for those rugby fans now contemplating weeks of hearing about mungo and cross country basketball as the Super 14 comes to a conclusion.

a three-day workshop will be taking place from 29 to 31 May 2006 inclusive, focusing on the development of a new, broad based rugby competition for Australia from 2007.

Well we’ve heard this before right? Well read through the document as it catalogues the dangers facing Rugby in Australia as the Wallabies slide and other codes consolidate their positions.

Even more importantly the next TV deal is going to be negotiated by naitonal unions individually and not SANZAR, so the Australian package needs more filling.

In any event, extremely interesting reading for Rugby fans.

Also, this year we only saw the Reds at home in Canberra. It would be good to be able to give all 3 a good flogging at home.

Anyway it’s all about building a better national team, and an excuse to drink more beer.

What is the point of the four australian teams playing each other again ? Fans have seen these teams clash this year, its just like a reverse pre-season cup and these cups carry minimal crediblity.

Thats the point Che. They are aiming for this platform to be in place by the next world cup (2011).

so we get an Aussie Super 4 from Sep to Oct this year plus we’re getting another comp next year in order to improve the game for the 2007 RWC

I think that might be leaving it a bit late
