Finger Printing delays

I need to get a police clearance check done, which requires fingerprints. If I lived in NSW, I could simply rock up to the police station, any police station, any time, and they’d take my fingerprints. NSW refuse to do it though, because I don’t live in NSW.

So, instead, here in Hopeless Stan’s uptopia, I have to make an Appointment, to get my fingerprints taken at the City Watch House (and ONLY there)
I can only make an appointment between 8am and 4pm, on Business days.
and the first available appointment is at the end of June.

Maybe some of the AFP members who frequent this site may be able to advise why it’s done in this manner? I keep telling myself “there must be a reason, i’m sure they do it this way because….”
I just can’t think of what the because is.

Any ideas ?

Casinos, Certain Security positions, Financial roles and top clearance positions all require fingerprints to get security clearances or licences……

3 of 4 positions i have applied for all required fingerprints.. and they are all different roles.

A visa application requires a finger print check…

Genie, are you a casino worker perhaps?

What sort of clearance requires fingerprints?

I think this is all bullshit….. !!! I have had fingerprints done in the past its take 5-10minutes….

Due to the backlog in being able to get finger prints I am most likely going to be unemployed for 2-3 months while I wait. As I legally cant start work until I get finger prints and police checks done…..

I think it is because the City watchhouse uses a digital printing machine that is more expensive, so they don’t have them everywhere.
Otherwise, you walk round with indelible ink on your hands for days.

I believe that they use police volunteers to do the fingerprinting…

Could have something to do with all the new ministerial staffers getting high level clearances? Do you need to be fingerprinted for these?

Does the taking of fingerprints need to be done by a copper? Can’t it be done by any suitably trained person? And then kept on file at the station.

It seems stupid that we have a police officer that could be out there chasing car thieves etc in the watch house rolling index fingers onto a piece of card….

If you’ve been to the US recently, just get US Immigration/Homeland Security to email the cops your paw prints…

…or just mail a money order to the AFP.

If you need your fingerprints taken in a hurry…go rob a store and make sure you get caught 🙂

yeah same kind of trouble if you have to get a police check for a job you need to go to the watch house to pay. Sucks if you currently work 8:30 – 5 somewhere other than civic.
