Fire in Giralang

ACT Fire Brigade currently on scene at a fire inside a house on Baracchi Crescent, Giralang.

Crews have the fire under control which is not yet fully extinguished.

No one was inside the single storey brick and tile house at time of fire and no neighbouring properties damaged.

Three fire pumpers, the breathing apparatus support vehicle, hazardous materials unit and a command vehicle on scene.

House has sustained significant damage.

Update to follow.

8:00pm Monday 8 August 2011

Fire has been extinguished. ACT Fire Brigade dampening down hot spots in the three bedroom house.

Fire started in a bedroom before spreading through the house.

Cause of fire undetermined at this stage.

Estimated damage $150,000.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 7.11pm.

Electric blanket

no injuries but at least 2 bedrooms destroyed, unclear how fire started, but started in a bedroom – residents not allowed back in at this stage. Friend’s house.
