Fire in Oaks Estate. Capital Flowers burning.

We’re getting reports of a buiding on fire in Oaks Estate.

More as it comes to hand and if you’ve got any pictures send them in to images@the-riotact.com .

UPDATE: Peter has sent in pix with the news it’s on Railway Street at “some sort of gardening centre”.

Further Update: Make that Capital Flowers.

UPDATE 3: This from the ESA:

ACT Fire Brigade working to extinguish a fire in Hill Street Oaks Estate.

The building was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters have contained the fire and are now working on full extinguishment.

12:21pm Saturday 6 August 2011

Fire has been extinguished, crews now mopping up. The roof collapsed during firefighting operations.

Fire located in worker accommodation building at nursery which may have contained asbestos sheeting.

The ACT Fire Brigade advises any nearby residents with respiratory issues to remain inside.

Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance Service also on scene.

nsw turned up first. it was my best mates flat… he only has the clothes on his back! They believe an oil heater started the fire!

I wonder who turned up first, the ACT or NSW firies? Oaks Estate is in the ACT but the local Queanbeyan Fire Station is much closer than the nearest Canberra one in Fyshwick.Would be interesting to know if common sense trumped bureaucratic procedure.
