The ACT Fire Brigade are on scene with multiple resources at the Melbourne Building in Civic this morning after receiving an automatic fire alarm from inside the Rotana Lebanese resturant.

On arrival firefighters forced entry and discovered a smoldering fire in some stored charcoal which had set off the sprinkler system.

The fire has been extinguished with a large amount of water damage to the premises and an adjoining book store.

The ACT Fire Brigade Fire Investigation Unit will attend the scene to determine the cause.

Does anyone know if smoke alarms work if they are just sitting ona cupboard? or do they have to be upsidedown?

if it connected to power and detects smoke it will go off . they are usually on the ceiling because smoke rises and gathers at the ceiling so depending on how high the cupboard is smoke would have to either pass it on the way up or gather at the ceiling and get thicker till it comes down to cupboard height.

the lettuce at AliBaba taste like fridge gas .

I wasn’t so much thinking of the Ali Baba type restaurant/takeaway or Turkish. More Brunswick in Melbourne or Cleveland St in Surry Hills type of sit down Lebanese restaurants.

Zhara’s, Sydney Road, YAH!!!!

Anyone been to the Lebanese restuarant where Ali Baba’s used to be?

Good Leb food is thin on the ground in Canberra.

That’s the one the article is about.

There’s no shortage of Turkish and middle eastern cuisine in Canberra.
I do wonder though if its popularity is declining. The Ali Baba in Woden is lucky to have more than two customers in lunch hour even when every other place has dozens at the counter.

The remaining ali baba in civic seems to be doing okay, dunno about other places.
We’re kinda lucky to have ali baba here, as it’s way way healthier than places that sell similar cuisine elsewhere, particularly overseas.
