8:55pm Monday 6 December 2010 – House fire in Wanniassa The ACT Fire Brigade is on scene at a house fire in Wanniassa.

Three fire pumpers were called to the Hoddinott Street property just after 8:30pm.

Firefighters have managed to contain the fire to the roof space at this stage.

9:15pm Monday 6 December 2010 – Update – House fire in Wanniassa Firefighters continuing to extinguish fire within the roof space of a house in Hoddinott Street Wanniassa.

Extensive smoke and water damage has been sustained with fire crews attempting to salvage contents within the home.

Damage bill initially estimated at around $50,000.

9:35pm Monday 6 December 2010 – Update two – House fire in Wanniassa The ACT Fire Brigade has praised the actions of the occupants of the Wanniassa house which caught on fire tonight.

The parents notice a red glow in the ceiling, quickly evacuated themselves and their two young children aged 4 and 7 months then rang emergency triple zero.

Firefighters are removing roof tiles to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and doesn’t spread.

The cause will be investigated.

The damage bill has been revised down to around $30,000 after fire crews were able to save most areas of the house from damage.
