A heavily oversubscribed ballot for land saw 71 lucky buyers securing blocks in Canberra’s newest suburb on Saturday.

The release marked the commencement of sales in Macnamara, Ginninderry’s second suburb located to the west of Strathnairn and bordered by a pristine conservation corridor with spectacular views of the Brindabella Mountains.

Due to expected high demand, the blocks were sold by a randomised ballot, with purchasers restricted to buying only one block. The blocks in the first release ranged in size from 350 square metres to 935 square metres.

A total of 12,300 registration were received for the 71 blocks available.

Ginninderry Project Director Steve Harding said the strong interest in the ballot demonstrated that his team’s work on building a genuinely sustainable, connected and future-proofed neighbourhood resonated with Canberrans and beyond. Around 16 per cent of confirmed ballot registrations came from people currently residing outside the capital region.

“While there is significant demand in the market, the 12,300 registrations demonstrate the appeal of living at Ginninderry,” Mr Harding said.

Mr Harding said Macnamara will build on the world-leading sustainability credentials forged in the earlier stages of the Ginninderry community with a move to mandating a minimum 7 Star Energy Rating for all homes.

In addition to its focus on sustainability, Macnamara also takes advantage of its position overlooking the Brindabellas. Residents will also get to enjoy community food gardens, dog parks, walking tracks, and new recreation and picnic areas along the Murrumbidgee River and in the ‘central park’.

The randomised ballot was designed to inject a degree of fairness into the process. The sale was not first-come, first-served. Someone who registers last could be among the first to pick a block during the block selection weekend, with each party choosing their block in descending order from the first drawn.

A very happy first home buyer, Priyanshu Chechi, secured the first block on Saturday. Moving from South Australia to be closer to family, Mr Chechi said he was attracted to the unique benefits offered by Macnamara’s location.

“Ginninderry has a beautiful location and it’s very close to all of the necessary amenities. I like that it’s only 20 minutes to the city centre,” Mr Chechi said.

A family of four with two young children, Andrew and Aritsara Corey said they were “ecstatic” after securing a block with a vista towards the Brindabellas.

“Our decision to buy was mostly about the kids. So, with the school and so much public space nearby, it will be perfect for them,” Mr Corey said.

Settlement of land within the first release of Macnamara is expected between February and October 2023.

The next release of land at Macnamara is targeted for the middle of 2022.

Ginninderry is a joint venture between the ACT Government, through the Suburban Land Agency, and Riverview Developments.

Aspiring to be a sustainable community of international significance, Ginninderry will cater to Canberra’s needs as a growing city. Stretching from the northwestern suburbs of Holt and Macgregor across the ACT/NSW border into the Yass Valley, Ginninderry will eventually be home to approximately 11,500 homes and 30,000 people.

Wow they are so lucky………

An interesting article, however, the price paid for the released blocks is not made known.
Anybody desiring to live in the area is surely intent on discovering if they can actually afford to live there.
