I was swooped by a (juvenile – still showing his mottled grey feathers) magpie this morning in the wilds of Gungahlin. Normally they don’t start till the council workers start work for Floriade in Commonwealth Park. An Indian Summer? Proof of Climate Change?

You sure it just wasn’t inept at flying?

Earliest I’ve been swooped is July, latest is Christmas Eve.

Perhaps it was just keeping its eye in and getting a touch of dive bombing practice before open season begins.

NNNNNNooooooooooooo !

Magpie baby making has been extended due to the warm weather continuing longer than usual this year. Unusual for a baby to swoop, it’s normally their mum and dad protecting the young.
