Fitness classes for mums with babies?

Hi all…I had baby #3 a month ago and I’m looking at getting back into some type of fitness classes.

My 2 other kids are at school and I’m keen on a class I can do during the day and take bub with me in the pram.

I do go on walks etc but want to meet some other mums and mix it up a bit.

Does anyone know of anything like this on the northside?

I went to PT sessions in the park with my other kids when they were born which were great but I was living interstate then.

Also are there any gyms northside with a crèche I could put her in while I do a class?

Thanks!

It sounds like you were looking for Strollerobics Australia. They run fitness classes throughout Canberra for mums and bubs. http://www.strollerobics.com.au

The classes are run indoors and outdoors at several locations and focus on all of the areas us mummies need the most help with! 😉 Babies and siblings come in the Stroller or join in with mum and the other children.

Contours Belconnen has Zumba classes on every Monday & Wednesday evening from 7.30 – 8.30pm and you don’t need to be a member of the gym to go. They also do yoga on saturday mornings and the classes are pretty cheap! They are located in Emu Bank, Belconnen.

Hi there

You may also like to try mums & bubs yoga which is a lovely way to spend time with bub and do some toning, stretching and relaxing. Also a good place to meet easy going mums. Downer would be closest: http://www.yogaforbirthandbeyond.com.

There are also others on the southside:
~ http://www.soulyogacanberra.com.au in Torrens
~ http://www.canberraprenatalyoga.com.au/postnatal-yoga.html in Weston
~ http://www.yogaforbirthandbeyond.com also in Weston
~ http://www.insync.com.au in Griffith.

Cheers!

I know that Latin Beat Fitness have classes twice a week in Reid (though that’s more central) and Kokoloco have classes at the Belconnen Arts Centre on their timetable: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Latin-Beat-Fitness/171746956193278

I wouldn’t have wanted to go to zumba with my baby when she was 1 month, she would have screamed her head off! Aren’t there any baby friendly pilates studios or something?

Thanks for the feedback everyone…I’m looking into the bubandme classes at the moment that minniemay suggested. The Flymums lady is in the process of handing over her business to Lollipops at Brand depot and it’s a bit far I think. I’m also going to pop in to Fernwood but they are a bit pricey…I’ll see how it goes.

Bub & me PT are pretty good – I went after my son was born. They do sessions at Lake Gininderra.

the gym at dickson has a creche – and i think the flymums classes are the remodelled ‘fitmums’ classes, which also sounded brilliant and were deliberately bubby-friendly.

There is a local company run by a lady named Jenny called Fly Mums.

Its sort of a group fitness session down by the lake. They also do Zumba and boxing
They had a kids area with nanny where the kddies get looked after and they are a very social group and get together for coffee etc!

Hey there

We did a post on this a few weeks ago – here’s a bit of a list of kid-friendly gyms which have creches:

http://www.hercanberra.com.au/index.php/2011/02/22/kickstart-2011/

FLYMums is changing their format a little soon, but Latin Beat Fitness will apparently be taking on some of their mums n bubs classes, and offering everything from Zumba to Boxfit to usual circuit/bootcamp fitness.

Hope that’s useful!

I’m interested to know about this too – particularly whether there are classes that don’t require me to sign up to a full gym membership – just weekly classes that run for a certain number of weeks; or that I could opt in and opt out of would be great.

Kind of related – Simplicity Retreats have a yoga for pregnancy retreat coming up this Saturday: http://www.simplicityretreats.com/

Fernwood Gungahlin has a creche in the premises for members – they don’t operate all day, think it runs from around 9am until after lunch sometime and is then open again in the late afternoon/early evening for the later classes. On my days off work when I go to morning classes I have seen a large number of prams in the creche room so they are experienced with newborns and young infants. I do know the creche costs more on top of your gym membership, but as I don’t have kids I have no idea how much.

Fernwood in Gungahlin has a creche, very reasonable.

Most gyms have creche’s open at certain times during the day.

Energy Fitness at Kippax and Flames Fitness Lyneham are 2 that I know of… although both are completely different SMALL gyms with Energy focusing more on classes, and Flames Fitness is more personal training and no classes.
