Valentine’s Day is one of those weird “holidays” that some people love to hate, others spend weeks planning big romantic gestures and most of us probably fall somewhere in between.

With V-Day coming up this Sunday, I’ve put together a list for all the lovers out there who want to stare into each others eyes and hold hands across the table in celebration of all things love – while eating good food, of course.

5. Breakfast at Pod Food

Hidden away in the gardens of an old farm in Pialligo, Pod Food is one of my favourite breakfast destinations. For Valentine’s Day, they have a $40 breakfast tasting menu. Their sample menu, which is subject to changes, currently features favourites like ricotta hotcakes and interesting items like a kimchi pork hock toasty. They also offer the option to add matching breakfast beverages for $20 – and with a breakfast cocktail list that includes espresso martinis, it’s not even a question. 4. Lunch at Hoi Polloi

Hoi Polloi at Old Parliament House is hosting a 3 course lunch for all you V-Day lovers out there. With a jazz duo playing in the background, a glass of sparkling on arrival and the added touch of a rose, this is romance at it’s finest. It’s $75 per person and the menu includes goodies like hot smoked trout, pumpkin and goats cheese cappelletti and cheesecake with peanut praline and salted caramel icecream. Yum. 3. Picnic from Gingham & Green

Gingham & Green is a local Canberra business that curates gourmet picnics using local produce and delivers them straight to your door. They have a special “Hopeless Romantic” picnic on offer for Valentine’s Day. The $125 picnic includes goodies from all your local favourites, including baked goods from Autolyse and charcuterie from Poachers Pantry. They’ve made it extra special with the addition of a single red rose from Moxom & Whitney, chocolate dipped strawberries and a box of handmade chocolates from Patisserie Valerie. 2. Afternoon Tea at the Hyatt

Let’s get a little sophisticated and talk about High Tea at the Hyatt. The Hyatt is always a great option if you’re looking to impress that special someone and on Valentine’s Day, their famous afternoon tea buffet will feature a strawberry and chocolate dessert theme. It’s $65 per person and there are two sittings at 11.00am and 2.30pm. Find out more: www.canberra.park.hyatt.com

1. Dinner at Parlour

If you’re after a romantic evening with your beloved, then Parlour in New Acton has you covered. From 6pm, they are serving a “romantic” 4 course degustation. You can also order off their regular menu, but when $55 gets you 4 courses plus a glass of sparkling, it’s hard to say no. Find out more: www.parlour.net.au

So lovers, I’m curious to know, what are your plans for Valentines Day this year?

What about Guild, the board game restaurant? Perfect for a date night!

Double date maybe… Not for a romantic evening alone with your partner.

It’s quite noisey and people playing a bunch of two player games would ruin the atmosphere.

Maybe market as a group activity for those avoiding valentines day
