Congratulations to Newen for contributing her thoughts on the photo sent in from Point Hut Crossing:

NEWBIE, if your a guy, please tell me your gay. Who cares what I was wearing that day. It was 2 degrees, what would you like me to wear, a dress, you flogg??? It was a sunday afternoon!!! The bag was Prada just incase you needed to know and I usually wear jeans. I also have a high paying job, property and a new car. Does that interest you also. Get your facts straight before calling a stranger a BOGAN!!!! And why don’t you get a life and maybe a JOB instead of sitting around commenting on every new issue that comes up on this blog!!!

What are you, god himself, for f..ksake!!!

Sweatpants and pink pleather bag, oh what a bogan. And a sh*tbox styled to have a similar roofline to a Porsche 911, oh give it up.

Now for the accident, it was a 50km accident around a wet slippery bend, I know because I was in the f…ing car!!!! The car was insured not that it’s anyones business but the owners!!! You all sit there reading a paragraph of sh.t that someone has put on here with a photo and go to town with it because you have nothing better to do with your lives, most of the rubbish your saying is all cr@p anyway!!!!

And you know what else, it’s bullsh%t that some bored wanker can put a photo of other people up on this blog without permission of these people!!!!!

I know, the grammar’s a little better than we’re used to in the flames, but the caps, the exclamation marks, and the heat are all top notch.

“Since, my friend, you have revealed your Deepest fear, I sentence you to be exposed before Your peers.
Tear down the wall!”

anonymous is the new wall?

All hail the new media! No care, no responsibility, entertaining, anonymous whingeing, 24/7. Speaking of anonymous, there is a verdict being talked about today in the UK, where a newspaper just won a court ruling permitting it to publish the name of an anonymous blogger. And Aussie pundits reckon the same ruling could happen here too. So remember, not only is big brother watching you, he’s taking you to court too!

oops, should be “very little prompting”, not “promoting”. Or maybe some people bully because they’ve been promoted, I don’t know.

The whole idea of a fotw thread is that it is official trolling: its supposed to invite people to attack the person quoted. And not to engage in any serious thought.

Plenty of people have got enough bully in them to need very little promoting.

As long as fotw posts are encouraged, the bullying will happen.

Why not cut to the chase? BerraBoy’s suggestion seems good: “just go out into Civic every day, take random pics of people and upload them here so we can tear them apart for nothing more than their being in the wrong place at the wrong time. “

Or maybe just take pics of riotact events, and post the unflattering ones.

Beer-swilling arrogant pin-wearing folk-loving big-arsed sportboofs with crap handbags, the lot of them.

String ’em up.

No need to be all bitchy deez… Perhaps you should read things more carefully.

deezagood said :

Then perhaps your point was not well made.

His point was entirely clear to me. I’m not sure what you’re getting at deezagood.

Anyway, I don’t particularly agree with AH anyway – I think that the “class warfare” on this site goes both ways: there’s just as much bagging of bogans as there is animosity against aristocrats.

It takes more than warm clothing to make one a bogan (or Booner, as we used to call them).

Nah, couldn’t be a booner ’cause I didn’t like the colour of desert boots, and couldn’t afford band t-shirts…

encourage people to wear trackies in winter, they are much warmer than jeans.

Jeans stop the wind much better though, so paired with thermals they do a great job, and look slightly less weird then wearing gortex pants in the city.

Then perhaps your point was not well made.

Henry, # 69’s comments were inappropriate and irrelevant to both the original post and subsequent thread. The young girl’s weight has absolutely nothing to do with anything on this thread FFS.

Mr Evil said :

And I bet she’s a Taurean!

I do hope you aren’t going anywhere bad with that. nothing wrong with the bulls.

The fact that the FOTW went after another newbie, who posted photos of the car she was in being involved in a small incident was fine. her right to do so. She chose the RiotACT, and copped a lot of flames. she hinted at censorship and that really fanned the fires – it was only a matter of time before there was a hint of personal attacks, and references to boganicity. regardless of what she said, we saw a picture of her on the web. we made assumptions, and we prejudged her. But that is the nature of anonymous internet forums. It becomes far more complicated when you get to meet other rioters.

I was brought into line on RA by Maelinar, Skid, Thumper, and later, JB. The oldies taught the newbie what was right and wrong. This is the kind of interaction that makes me come back. Newbies need to be taught the ettiquete of the site by existing members, so that they can have a voice, but understand that it will be regulated by moderation.

And I bet she’s a Taurean!

Henry, # 69’s comments were inappropriate and irrelevant to both the original post and subsequent thread. The young girl’s weight has absolutely nothing to do with anything on this thread FFS.

Interesting and amusing.

Some people have defended this person perhaps because she is the underdog, dressed down, etc. Yet when you take someone like Elkie Stewart who comes from a more elevated background (perhaps) and put up a story about her those same people have had no problems with the comments they’ve made in that forum…

It would seem sometimes you really are damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Fickle and shallow people, fickle and shallow.

I don’t have a hole to crawl into so I’ll go back under my rock.

not at all, I almost expected a mini flame for what i said there. Expectation met.

and as for my excuse for posting, you tell me yours, ill tell you mine, as far as i can tell, I have as much right to post on this topic as you do, especially when she is attacking one of my mates who had pulled up to make sure that they were ok.

Requiem has behaved, our “prada”-wearing pink handbag poster hasn’t.

It’s not as though she was wandering down the street and got photographed and attacked.

As a newbie you also haven’t been personally criticised before you even made your first post. Consider that.

One can wear trackies (i am) and ugh boots (check), but real bogans are loud, offensive, obnoxious and ignorant. It takes more than warm clothing to make one a bogan (or Booner, as we used to call them).

I encourage people to wear trackies in winter, they are much warmer than jeans. Jeans are terrible in cold country! (except mine, which are LL Beans with plaid fleece lining).

“I’ve got uggies and I vote”

Better watch out, though – we might be targeted after the motorcyclists 🙂

For what it’s worth, I’d probably reply with a FOTW given all the unwarranted crap that had been posted.

Fauxgan is a label that I can see myself under.

fauxgan bashing is fine

I think I could be a fauxgan.

: )

I like to think of myself a s a fauxgan – I look like one (e.g. I just went to the local in hoodie, trackies and uggies, it is cold though and I am sick) , and to a stranger I am one, but me and the people who know me know I am not….Hence I am a fauxgan

Who is with me ? – lets start a fauxgan revolution

You may be right Yapyap. From wiki:

‘Mel Campbell argued in an article in the Sydney Morning Herald that bogan (including cashed-up bogan) is a nebulous, personal term that is frequently used in a process by which “we use the idea of the bogan to quarantine ideas of Australianness that alarm or discomfort us. It’s a way of erecting imaginary cultural barriers between “us” and “them”.” Campbell argues that while many people believe they know exactly what a bogan is and what their characteristics might be, in reality there is no defined set of characteristics of a bogan: people using the term merely use it to describe those imagined to be different to, and less cultured than the speaker.’

To be PC, or not to be PC: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous bogans,
Or to take arms against a sea of bubbleheads,
And by opposing ridicule them?

Sad old world if we cannot reply to a flame with some choice invective of our own….

The thing is, when a new person comes sailing in, and their first post is a very emphatic You All Suck post, well, who is going to be touchy-feely about that?

So the Young Female didn’t like peoples’ comments about her costume, and reacts with a soemwhat profane spray. I guess that usually means game on.

dressed impeccably as i am in my zegna suit and armani loafers, i can barely cope with all these trakki-clad bogans posting here in defence of this flame.

o, to what depths has the riot sunk now..?? ; )

Ditto, Spidey – #69 is the bitchiest post I have ever read on this site. And that includes Woody’s constant sniping at my posts.

Also returning to hole…

Whilst JB has replied and I do agree, I wanted to support Granny. Whilst it is not “cyber bullying” by definition, it is still a whole lot of people picking on one young girl, who wasn’t even the driver of the vehicle. In this, I do agree with granny.

Alright, now I crawl into the hole I once came …..

definitions of stupid terms like cyber bullying are beyond the scope of the article.

But agreed, let’s limit the personal abuse and keep comments as direct responses to Newen’s post.

Granny said :

Well, just explain to me how this is not cyber bullying.

I don’t think this is cyber bullying. It’s an open blog where anyone can write what they want…as long as it’s not disturbing etc. If it was targeted to someone’s personal email address etc, then that might be another case.

I think you are taking this whole blog out of context.

Wasn’t there a comment by Jazz recently in the RiotACT survey response Thread about regulars going for the kill on newbies and this then leading to newbies commenting only once or twice before being chased off?

Don’t get me wrong, for mine, newen’s comment was a worthy FOTW as it had all the right ingredients if measured against previous FOTW’s. But, as Thumper has said, I think the personal comments are going a bit too far. Who cares what clothes she wears, handbag she has etc. She just happened to be sitting in the back seat of a car that ran off the road. Then she was unfortunate enough to have a bystander take a few pics and upload them to the web. Again, not her fault. And I’m sure she probably wishes she’d never commented on Prada, but then again how was she, as a newby, to know that that making such a comment on RA is like throwing a baby seal to a shark.

Otherwise, JB may as well go out into Civic every day, take random pics of people and upload them here so we can tear them apart for nothing more than their being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It can be a regular feature, the Bad Threads Thread.

Deezagood, you were wrong when you said

In fact it was Art who felt he had something relevant to contribute in believing that clothes (and handbags) maketh the man (or in this case woman) when he said in the initial post.

Sweatpants and pink pleather bag, oh what a bogan. And a sh*tbox styled to have a similar roofline to a Porsche 911, oh give it up.

Seriously Granny, get a grip.

Yes, as they tell every victim of bullying. Just ignore them. Just walk away. They never tell the bullies to stop the abuse.

Yes an innocent girl has been forced to defend herself but she just lowered herself by using such profanities and name dropping about material things, best to ignore people instead of lowering ones self. ‘For every finger pointed, four fingers point back’

She talks like being a Bogan is a bad thing.

I’d rather see tracky daks than the prevalent amount of lycra in that area… Lycra ownership should only be granted after an individual review by a Standards Committee.

Tracky daks are way more comfortable than jeans when going for a Sunday drive. Unlike the drivers on road behaviour -her choice of attire is entirely suitable for the conditions.

Granny, I was merely making a point that if anyone was going to go to lengths about bragging what brand of handbag they had, I doubt they would wear them with trackies! I don’t buy things specifically by brand, nor do I choose to ‘name drop’ – it was merely a statement. Or was it too complicated for you to understand.

As Newen said, you have no idea what is going on in her life right now. If somebody fishes her out of a creek, you are far more culpable than that driver.

they look like size 14 tracky daks.. maybe even 16… all that weight in the passenger seat, no wonder it went off the road.

As I’ve always said ‘No matter how much money one might say they have or have in material things, it certainly does not buy class!’.

I think the non bogans are claiming trackies and uggs back as their own 🙂

And if wearing tracksuit pants on the weekend automatically makes a person a bogan, then I am one too, because I love wearing my warm trackies to and from the snow on a weekend, primarily because they are easy to slip off when changing into ski pants in the car.

I wear trackies twice a day in public…Matter of fact right at this moment, Iam in my pajamas/trackies and ugg boots, Bogan me up scottie..

Ill stand by my bag for hire – a hooker line thought 🙂

You are right FC, most products somewhere along the production line are involved in exploitation in one way or another. A quick search reveals prada is one of those companies whose suppliers have been accused of repressing their workers.

While it it can be difficult to find products that are excluded from this I would hardly say people are uninformed in this day and age when they travel to Thailand or whatever for the sole purpose of buying the cheap knockoffs.

At the end of the day when you buy goods uninformed from reputable retailers at least there is a chance you are not supporting child labour whereas if you are purchasing something that would normally costs hundred or even thousands for less than fifty bucks there is no question someone has been exploited.

Ha. Well its good to be pedantic in some cases. I have learnt something new today. Now if I am to converse with a well spoken (Prada handbag owning) high society person, I will not embarrass myself by using the word infer innapropriately 😉

To infer is to take meaning from something, to imply is to suggest or propose.

Are you serious FC….are you saying use of child labour is endemic so why bother caring about it.

While there are some things that I agree it is near impossible to purchase a child-labour/slave-labour free product, like computer keyboards for example, someone that ‘gets a bargain’ by buying cheap knock-offs doesn’t deserve any respect whatsoever in my mind.

If someone wants to purchase a handbag for $800, so what. I bet that same person would disagree with what you should spend your $800 on.

I often wonder how many Bonds employees were ‘getting bargains’ on cheap chinese crap only to have the tables turned.

No, that is absolutely not what I was saying at all. I was responding to your comment, in which you asked if I support child labour. Which I do not. I use my knowledge not to buy products or support companies that have ethical practices I do not agree with.
What I was inferring was that it is something that most people in their everyday lives, without even realising it, are purchasing items that someone down the line, came from the exploitation of someone else. Now, If I chose not to respect this people because of these purchases (uninformed purchases I might add), it would be pretty damn lonely up on the high horse that I would be sitting on.
Good point re the Bonds employees too..
However, I still would have more respect for someones uninformed decision to buy a rip off designer label, than someones (informed?) decision to spend a ridiculous amount of money and a handbag just because it is “designer” and then apparently gives them some sort of status.

Yes, i need their tiny fingers for that delicate stitching.

I think the chances of a designer brand having been made with child labour, and a cheap knock off having been made with that labour, are not so far apart as to be an issue.

And I have to say I’ve not noticed a difference in quality between Chinese and Australian manufacturing…

That’s hardly what I was getting at. Most of the products you would buy from any of the $2 shops around canberra have a play in child labour and other horrible labour practices, and not to mention that vast array of other everyday products that most of us wouldn’t even think about.

the point I was making is that I would find it easier to respect someone who thought that they were ‘getting a bargain’ at buying a fake designer handbag, than someone who thought that the best way to spend $800 is on a handbag, so that they can feel classy, or for whatever reason it is they buy it.

She must have done some of that fancy book-learning to have such good grammar.

+1 its a little rough to be accusing someone of sex work just because they are wearing ‘trackies’ and claim to earn good money.
I think the angle they might be pushing is that if she was a sex worker then she ‘must’ be completly unclassy then and even more of a target to pick on.

But I’m just a reverse snob..

what is a reverse snob? I am just the salt of the earth…

I wear my trakkies out all the time. It’s winter. They’re warm. I was kind of blissfully unaware that this made me a bogan, but now that I know I shall try not to disappoint.

Hand on heart I have no desire to own a Prada handbag.

Everyone gloating that the handbag must be fake and she can’t possibly have a good job — Like to judge people by how much money they have and how much stuff they have collected? Or just good to feel superior because you have more stuff and make more money?

What’s worse, a bogan; or a pretentious, holier than thou yuppie who spends their time making derogatory comments about other people’s looks and fashion?

Hmm, well a decent proportion of “bogans” I have met have turned out to be nice people. Can’t say the same for the latter group.

Oh
My
God!

The funniest thing is I have a feeling I know a few people who would think that this is “like, a totally awesome idea”

Is rent a bag another name for a bogan hooker as well ?

The concept of ‘rent a bag’ is so hilarious!

And whether one has money doesn’t really make one a bogan or not nowadays.

It’s the desire for luxury goods and status gone completely mad.

We can’t make a definitive coment on the parties

This sentence is correct! Hahaha you winners are prreeety funny

Please continue

The bag was Prada just incase you needed to know and I usually wear jeans. I also have a high paying job, property and a new car.

I was beaten to the punch re Cashed Up Bogans.

If it is really cold out, I would expect someone to wear something other then trackies. Yup, great for Sunday afternoon at home, but if you are out, maybe something that will stop the wind?

Now for the accident, it was a 50km accident around a wet slippery bend, I know because I was in the f…ing car!!!!

Mmmmm, 50km/h around a bend on a wet road at 2°C (potential for ice), sounds like the driver was going WAY to fast. Although in retrospect that is obvious.

We can’t make a definitive coment on the parties bogan status because the hoody hides the mullet.

In my experience, if somebody feels the need to state ‘And my handbag’s Prada’, then it probably isn’t. Fake or rental bag is my guess.

I doubt that the bag’s Prada.

+1. I was thinking the exact same thing!

Looks like a tidy bird as well where’s a shot of the face?

CUB = Cashed Up Bogan, who says bogans don’t have money anyway?
