Flint in the Vines

Sunday being a stunningly beautiful day, I thought it was too nice to be indoors. So a quick motorcycle ride took us to Murrumbateman, where we checked out the just-opened-this-week Flint in the Vines. Having had a good experience with the dinner menu at Flint in New Acton late last year, I knew the food would be worth the short trip to get there.

Shaw’s Winery is on Isabel Drive, just outside Murrumbateman. It was easy to find – well sign-posted from the main road. We arrived about 15 minutes after the breakfast menu finished, but just in time to get an outside table and enjoy the views over lunch. While we waited for our table, we compared the two Shaw winery rieslings at the wine tasting bar. I liked the dry riesling, my partner preferred the Germanic-style sweeter one.

The lunch menu was good – pizza from the wood-fired oven for $24 was big enough to share, and all the mains are under $25. We went for a mushroom pizza, which had white truffle oil involved (not that I would have known, I’m not really a foodie). The crust was very thin and crispy, and richer (like biscuit crust?) than usual pizzas. Despite being fully booked for lunch, the service was prompt. Definitely book if you’re thinking of heading out there, the manager said it’s been busy all week.

I’ll be back. The views and atmosphere would be perfect for a group booking, the indoor tables are very “I’m taking you somewhere special”, and the outside tables would make it easy for us to bring the kids without worrying about disturbing others.

Was interested to see this, as I thought I’d take The Man for a special weekend lunch to somewhere like…Flint in the Vines or Poachers Pantry or Grazing @ Gundaroo. I was amazed to see that you now have to expect to pay $16-$17 for entrees and $26 – $30 for mains at any of these places — for lunch, for gods sake. Sorry, but, I think this is totally over the top and utterly pretentious.

Seems pretty standard pricing to me, although, I hear you can get a Happy Meal for a bit less. Maybe The Man would prefer that anyway?

Or are you saying those prices would be okay for dinner, but not lunch? If so, perhaps you can explain how it is cheaper for the same establishment to prepare lunch as compared to dinner.

I’m a big fan of Flints in Acton so was keen to go out there when they opened. I found a limited menu without any real passion for the produce so it was a bit disappointing.

Then they didn’t have Appletons rum which was the last straw.

I won’t be back although happy to keep going to the Diamant Flint.

Nice advert, can’t blame them for trying.

I thought so initially but OP has posted on many more matters than this 60 posts and 687 comments. Indicates a pretty legitimate rioter to me, conveying a great experience.

If I can get Granny Saffron to look after Young Master Saffron, Ms Saffron and I might venture out there and check it out.

If you want a motorcycle report, I’m not the person to talk to. I’m just a pillion.
And no, not an ad. I don’t have anything to do with the restaurant or winery, just had a nice time there and thought others might be interested to know what it’s like. It only opened on Wednesday last week (I think). Frankly, I get to go out kid-free so rarely that when I do go somewhere I want to tell everyone what I did.

Nice advert, can’t blame them for trying.

I haven’t been to Flints, but I have eaten at Shaws a few times B4 reading here that it has changed to Flints.

It has always been excellent, the beef carpaccio I have had twice was really really good.

The pizzas are some of the best I have ever had, I really love their bases, but looking at the Flints menu, the ones I liked are no longer there, the menu dosen’t appeal to me as much as the old one but I will probably give it a try.

I have never taken my children there, and probably wouldn’t.

My wife and my self have said the building and surrounds are nice and but the decor was always bought down a little bit by the cafe style chairs.

The wait staff have always been a little inexperienced but made up for it by been friendly and attentive without been annoying.

Drinking and riding? Even if it was only tasting… Not a risk I would take. I got on the bike once a couple of hours after having just one light beer and it felt pretty dodgy, despite having felt just fine on two feet

That said, this is very obviously a hoax. What kind of motorcyclist writes a ride report and doesn’t include at least 10 photos of their bike next to signs/landmarks?
