Flunking at overtaking

Daring!

Devil_n_Disquiz sent us this in:

This clown had already passed us on Brindabella Road between Uriarra Village and Cotter Road. He passed over double lines then too. Not only that but on the crest of a hill. If a motorcycle had been coming the other way it would have been all over red rover. I specifically mention a motorcycle as they use this road to test their Casey Stoner wannabe skills.

On Cotter Road he overtook a campervan with his usual contempt for the rules of the road.

Oh, and just in case anyone asks…taken with iPhone 4S by front seat passenger. 🙂

Cheers

I’ve reported someone for the same sort of thing before (with photo evidence). Cops took my details and said they would call me. Still waiting and it was over a year ago now.
Good luck getting anything done about it. Cops don’t care.

You’ll note that the advice that I offered was to take a much more active role in ensuring that it was followed up. I developed this view after the initial non-action when I reported the near miss with a 4WD out at Wallaroo Rd. (you might remember the video on TRA late summer). If I had not followed up twice then nothing would have happened. It isn’t a matter of “don’t care” necessarily, they are flat out most of the time and it is easy for something to slip off the table. I just ensured that it was put back on the table a couple of times.

If the police have to be threatened to do their job, it’s really sad.

If you want to dob someone in for doing the wrong thing i’d presume you’d have to be prepared to front the magistrate along with the offender to have any chance of getting a conviction.Of course that’s assuming the plod considered it serious enough to follow through with the allegation.

More generally you’d have to make it more difficult for the police to refuse to do something about it, compared with the usual alternative of do nothing. That might include threatening to go to the media (in addition to RA). Or complain to a minister or something. Make it their problem.

That is truly frightening.

There should be more frightening advertising aka the smoking adds to wake people like this Audi driver up. Fine if people want to roll the dice with their own life (as he/she/it is going in this photo) but don’t risk the lives of others (like anyone unlucky enough to be coming the other way).

Research has shown that scare advertising just does not work.

UNfortunately I see this at least 2-3 times a week driving between Braidwood and Canberra every day. It is completely stupid and I have seen many near-misses and almost been caught up in it a few times. Funny thing is I have noticed that most offenders are young, have ACT plates and a lot of them are in Mazdas (especially the 3).

THe othe r major demographic is the cashed up bogan towing a boat or jetski behind a 4WD or 4WD ute that has obviously never been offroad.

I filled in the online form found which apparently goes ACT Police Traffic Intelligence.

https://act.crimestoppers.com.au/help-solve-crime/crime-stoppers-information-report

However, there was a disclaimer at the bottom which reads

“IMPORTANT NOTE: Information entered on this form will not result in the dispatch of a patrol. If you require police attendance please contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444.”

I realise that the Police are quite likely very busy with more important matters but it would be so awesome for them to just rock up to the house of this douchebag, wave a picture in front of his face and ask him just what the hell he thought he was doing.

*shrug* I had a motorcyclist try and overtake me today on the left (1 lane each way), at a zebra crossing, in a school zone.

Do us all a favour. Report it. Walk into a police station with the photos burned on a CD or printed. Make a statement giving best description of the offender (even approximate age and gender). Ask the name of the officer who will be dealing with it. Check back in one week to ensure that action was taken.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The Barton Highway is getting better, but there’s still places where its legal to overtake that I think NO WAY, I can’t see enough and others that are double lines that I do have vision. Doesn’t help.

The Audi driver is still a tool and needs a time out. Where are you going on that road that a few minutes matter?

On the plus side, these photos are a magnitude more interesting than the crap parking ones.

Flunking? Looks like it passed.

Yeah, forward this to police. The prick needs to be nailed.
This isn’t just speeding. As mentioned before this behaviour can wipe out whole families coming the other way.
If it’s possible for this driver to get done for this behaviour when no cops are in sight, it just might curtail his recklessness.

About 2 years ago while returning from the coast I was almost involved in somebody elses catastrophe when a Young Female Arsehat in a euro sports car overtook me and the car in front of me over double lines on a blind crest between Braidwood and Queanbeyan as the setting sun shone directly in our faces.

Surprisingly, a car came the other way. Who would’ve thought that could happen? YFA took the centre line, swerving into the car in front of me, forcing him into the weeds, and the bloke coming the other way went off the other side of the road. In less time than it takes to shout a despairing curse we’d all zoomed past each other by the thickness of a coat of paint and carried on our respective ways.

YFA ended up in front and and sped off at about 140, either thinking it was all no great thang or (hopefully) ashamed to be in presence of civilized human beings. The bloke in front of me who’d done a bit of surprise four wheel driving had obviously gone to Condition Brown (as had I), because he motored the rest of the way to Quangers at about 60 km/h and I didn’t overtake him.

The moral of the story? I reckon there are a million near misses or potential head-on collision situations like this each year, caused by impatient fools driving in a suicidal/murderous manner. Every now and then things don’t pan out so well, and you read about half a dozen people being killed in a head on collision on a country road somewhere.

Don’t do it people. You might kill yourself, your loved ones and a whole bunch of other innocent folks as well.

Don’t drive like this people.

But it’s the fault of the road. Or speeding. Or …?

Actually LWSCHP, you’re spot on – lots of people just can’t drive.

It is something Canberra drivers excel at, farking up passing on country roads.

what do you expect from a SUV driver?

Good job getting pics of this bastard, I hope they’ve been forwarded to Police.

Can the driver be done using the photos as evidence? Be nice if they could.

Ya have to love Audi drivers, they think they can do anything……………and yet they are a FAIL
