Fly tipping Mt Painter

Whilst walking the dogs this morning I came across this pleasant sight. Think about this. Someone had to lad this into a vehicle capable of carrying it, drive it to this spot, (probably in the dark) dump it, and either smash it up there, or leave it for other mouth breathers to smash up. Would it have been any less bother to take it to the salvos? Is it too much trouble to take it to the Mitchell recycling place? Was it fun for you, did you get a thrill out of dumping it there.

What sort of rancid, dim witted, unthinking, low life, scumbucket would go to that amount of trouble to dump it there? You cannot get to the place without having to drive, you couldn’t dump it without making an effort.

To smash the glass there, a place where I walk my dogs, would have earned you a lifetime of pain if I had caught you in the act.

Oh, not that I’m making accusations or intimating any association, but there was a substantial amount of paperwork lying around, which all seems to be associated with “Alterations Now”, including several “announcement requests” for Brand Depot’s customer service announcements. Makes you think though…

Stuff being dumped and left in and near charity bins is a problem. This wasn’t as serious when rate payers were able to dump their rubbish free.

Most of the ‘stuff’ I see dumped near charity bins *could* be recycled appropriately IF the arse dumping it could be bothered in investing a bit more of their time.

Lazy ignorant people take NO responsibility for their actions and dump.

ant the charities will probably take your stuff, except the mattresses.

Just ring salvos at belconnen or mancare at fyshwick – they are the big ones with furniture I think.

mancare at Fyshwick would be convenient, I’ll see if they’re interested. I’ve heard of charities knocking back normal furniture, although they all seem to take clothes (god knows I’ve given anglicare heaps!).

Earlier in the year there were reports from the Smith Family and the Salvation Army of lots of non useful junk being dumped at their facilities. I still think if transfer stations were put in places that were relatively convenient and there were no charges for rubbish dumping and special charges for things like electronics, whitegoods and matresses they would be less likely to end up dumped at Charities’ facilities and less likely to be dumped in the bush.

Of course it will not stop some dumping stuff but reduce the incentive for others.

You’re not being discriminated against! You’re being villified.

My kids actually saw this item getting dumped. They were too far away to get the license plate before the cretin sped off…

Apparently it was a white ute, some sort of dual cab (as described by an 11 year old). Wish I’d been there…..

Wouldn’t it have been easier to dump this stuff in Clift St, Richardson, and scrawl “In memory of Megan and Steven” on the side?

I’ve been told that makes it acceptable.

Top post Ari! You is chooooooooice!

I’m waiting for hk0reduck to say she’s the girl in the OP.

The we’ll get her PB!

Stuff being dumped and left in and near charity bins is a problem. This wasn’t as serious when rate payers were able to dump their rubbish free. Why shouldn’t people have to pay you say. Well they will and spread out over time it would probably work out the same if it was paid for through our rates. I don’t believe tip fees help in the reduction of rubbish. It has to go somewhere.

didnt the alterations place at brand depot close down?

It’s amazing, i live on the North side you cannot walk for more than 3-4 blocks without seeing someones rubbish dumped either in public parks or up lane ways. seems that it must be too hard to find a hopper or take it away than it is just to dump it & leave it up to some one else usually parks & gardens but no sooner than they clean is it seems to make n new site to put more? i think that some people around just seem to use it as their own personal cleanup service.
or then i don’t know if some of it is related to the druggos, or its the stuff that the dealer won’t take for a shot. so some poor innocent bastard has just lost his playstation, stereo or something else easily stolen for nothing.

Astonishing… somebody has gone to so much trouble, for so little point! Surely, given the effort that all must have taken, it would actually have been easier and lazier to just take it to the tip or give it away? This is getting depressing – I’m 26, and I don’t understand the youth of today!!

this is horrible 🙁

I know I will go to hell for giggling at that comment by Ari…

Rudd’ed, I like that term! I’m Rudding up my mattress today (except it cost a bit more than the RuddBucks covered). Cep’t the mattress actually needed replacing cos it was old and squashed, it’s not an Aspirational (Ruddinational?) purchase. My back aspired to not hurting any more.

If anyone has recently Rudd’ed up their plasma from a 54inch to a 60inch and needs to give away the old one, I’ll take it.

I use freecycle to occasionally get rid of stuff but cant stand the sop stories either, but it is part and parcel…

Someone is asking for a gokart and welder for a project – heres a hint, If you cant afford something, save, or realise that you can not and deal with it. I want an Vincent Black Lightning 1952 – like ill ever get it, I dealt with it. I certainly will not publically grovel for sympathy.

I have in the past recieved a lot of lenses for pre digital pre autofocus era nikon cameras from a kind gentleman as well – But I tend to ask for things maybe bi-annually – and usually obsolete stuff gathering dust, not an iMac 24 inch or something like that.

I gave up on freecycle when every second post became “I’m a disabled lesbian pensioner dying of cancer who needs a laptop for free (must be Core Duo minimum, 2gb fast SDRAM, widescreen).”

Er, I think you’ll find it does actually cost a bit to dump stuff at the tip.

However, I agree whole-heartedly that it’s a low act.

Wood or 90% wood product can be dumped for free in the wood section of Mitchell tip or taken by Aussie junk, Thats what happened when I ran the weighbridge at both tips.

Whoops – just read rest of comments with mention of Freecycle already. lol

Ant – you can join Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) and advertise them on there. There is a very active Canberra group.

I, of course, bow to Wikipedia’s ineffable knowledge. “Skip jacking” is also a term I wasn’t previously familiar with. Learn something new every day….

You live out Captains Flat way though yeah ? Maybe they have a Qbn group – but in any case google freecycle and there should be a local chapter you can join.

I got rid of 44 gallon drums in less than 24 hours, if you have good clean furniture you should have no dramas

Yeah, but I’m rural, so it would be quite difficult for people to come get it. Plus my driveway is somewhat challenging for normal cars.

I’ll have the ute so I can take it and drop it off to a charity, but I’ve heard so many horror stories of stuff being rejected (which is rather amazing). It really is rather tricky. It’s certainly way too good to be smashed up. I guess it’s a product of living in a wealthy society: recyling non-new stuff is hard.

Wikipedia knows of fly-tipping, p1.

Yeah, Surely it’s not that hard to axe something like that up, and slowly put it in your weekly trash over 1 month, or kindly ask your neighbour to let you chuck a few bits in everyweek if they have room to spare..

I’ve used this approach on big things before myself. Couple of weeks of stuffed full bin gets rid of a lot of smashed up chip board.

Is the term “fly tipping” in relation to doing it “on-the-fly”, or is it a typo and should be “sly tipping”, or are you suggesting that the people dropped it from a low flying aircraft?

Mouth breathers hehehe… some jerk has dumped old mattresses and other crap outside Taylor Primary School too (near the underpass) great for the little ones to play on eh, some people…

This is a good example of what gets me down with society these days (and I’m not even that old) Selfish, careless people.

“It is cheaper and easier for me to dump it on everyone else to clean up or ruin the landscape.”

I’m sure if one of us was to dump a rubbish on their front lawn, they would be the first to in an uproar.

Selfish.

This sort of thing really sh!ts me. What is it with people that they think it’s OK to outsource their waste problem onto the rest of the community.

RSPCA was advertising on the Canberra LJ group for a lounge for their waiting area.

You do see stuff like this a lot… from things like that furniture, to bags of rubbish, LOTS of building waste… it’s so selfish.

That said, I have a bunch of furntiture I need to get rid of… I’ll have the ute tonight as my new mattress has arrived and I’m picking it up (sleep! yahoo!). So it’s a great opportunity to take away these things (old 80s Freedom lounge, a velvet lounge chair, 2 futons, futon bed base, desk…). From what I’m hearing, the charities aren’t very keen to get such things? I’m rural, no kerb to leave them on! So I have to take them somewhere. And they’re current furniture, not rubbish in teh shed covered in dust.

Does anyone know somewhere that wants clean, useable stuff?

That is so weak. To make it worse, it would have cost nothing to drop at the tip. Anyone from Brand depot have anything to say about it? It looks a lot like a display counter.
