Fm 104 declare ratings victory

johnboy 14 September 2011 26

Canberra FM have sent in the following:

104.7 has continued its unbroken 4 year run as Canberra’s favourite radio station and 5 years as the regions number 1 commercial radio station. Scotty & Nige also continue to dominate the Breakfast time-slot with the most people listening to them over any other show with 83,600 listeners over the age of 10 tuning in each week.

MIX 106.3 has also experienced audience growth with 92,600 listeners over the age of 10 years now listening each week, placing them in a strong number 3 position. New hosts, Pete & Biggzy, have also retained the number 2 commercial spot in the competitive Breakfast time-slot.

General Manager of Canberra FM Radio (operator of both 104.7 & MIX 106.3), Eoghan O’Byrne, said “104.7 will be celebrating a well-deserved result and are to be commended for consistently holding their number 1 position over the past 5 years, as it’s a feat that not many radio stations can lay claim to.” O’Byrne added, “We’re extremely happy with the results and audience loyalty with MIX 106.3 as the station continues to re-build with a new breakfast show, branding and line-up changes all in place for only a few weeks prior to this Audience Survey.”

Canberra FM Radio now boasts 170,300 listeners across both 104.7 and MIX 106.3, an increase from 48.1% to 48.3% of the ACT radio audience market.

I now prefer pod casts and my own music collection. Even my kids avoid the Radio.

Yep lots of radio but almost all via podcasts here too. And on the phone I can listen to them at double speed. Still easily understood, and because it is talking I can still hear what’s going on around me while cycling. Ordinary radio just seems too slow now…

Yeah, I’ve been doing that too. With VLC Player on a computer with both audio & videos. I nearly always watch documentaries 1.5x or double speed now, cuts down the amount of time wasted watching stupid content free dramatic effects, not to mention commercials.

666 is on digital in Canberra now. Radio National was too, but the ABC pulled the plug for some reason. They now have a silent “ABC Test” instead.

Radio is only going one way – the dustbin of history. My teenage kids (and none of their friends) just don’t listen to it ever, and don’t have the slightest desire to when their alternatives are so freely available.

I listen to nearly all the stations mentioned on a regular basis, except 104 when Scotty & Nige are on. Probably the two most obnoxious and annoying people on radio.

20.3% to 666’s 19%? I call that “by the slimmest of margins”.

A margin I think would quickly evaporate if 666 would just move over to FM – please?
Regional ABC is on FM elsewhere – Sunshine Coast’s Coast FM for example.

Then they would lose their 666 call sign..

If 083 Motors in Yass could manage to exist well beyond the usefulness of its three digit phone number I’m pretty sure listeners of ABC666 can deal with keeping the name if it went to digital or FM.

I don’t see how you can claim a “victory” from a mintority poll – wait, isn’t that how the red queen got in???
I’ll stick with the Big Sports Brekky or iPod in the morning commute. Bring on digital, clearer stations (no drop out areas like Kambah/Wanniassa) and more choice, this current batch of fakes on the commercial stations won’t know what hit them and they will lose any audience they actually have.

Surprised ABC Newsradio rates so low. That’s my commute station, except for the 7.40am sports report.. for some reason my carpool partner hates the sound of the womans voice…

ABC is getting digital in the near future apparently, fingers crossed they have the dedicated Grandstand station they were touting elsewhere last summer.

What a load of crap. I find it impossible to believe that in a politically aware city like Canberra, the talk stations 2CC and 666 are not the leading stations.

Where are they distributing the ratings books? The local kindergartens?

I’m really sorry to burst your bubble but in a politically aware city, there is not felt the need to mindless bemoan the world to Ray Hadley and his cronies with mindless dribble. The people of this city and region are savvy enough to understand that this is not entertainment but merely lowest common denominator appealling to such.
