Foreshore cleanup

With the Foreshore festival choosing to use iconic public locales there’s a legitimate public interest in the clean-up.

To that end I wandered down this morning, three days later, to see how they’re going.

Most of the site is still fenced, and there’s a lot of heavy machinery still hard at work.

You can get down into Commonwealth Place from the Parliament House side and the grass in the bowl has taken a real pounding.

Little tiny shards of plastic from crushed drinking cups are everywhere and cigarette butts abound. But they’ve made a real effort to clean up the larger rubbish.

They’re not finished yet, but cleaning up all those plastic shards in compacted grass is going to be a bugger of a job.

It won’t be? Is that a fact or just your guess? I would have thought it would continue….not my thing, but seems to have gone really well.

& I train near that site every week, was there last night & you’d barely know there was a festival held there on the weekend. Even the grass looked in pretty good condition this year.

I would have thought that the clean up would not necessarily be at taxpayers expense?
I know that in Sydney when a major festival or dance party is held, the organisers have to either wholly cover, or significantly contribute to the cost of clean-up.

Im not sure why Foreshore would be any different?

There’s that dunny that caused the crash on Northbourne today.

Nosey, next time, how about you take your crushed plastic cups and cigarette butts with you, m’kay?

look cleaner than many other parts of the lake or Civic that dont get used for any events!

That doesn’t look too bad. By all accounts Foreshore was a great success, and it’s a good thing for the useless Parliamentary Triangle wasteland to be used for this kind of thing.

While I agree that it is a waste of tax payers money to clean up the mess, who cares???

The lake and it’s surroundings are not there just for Floriade lovers to enjoy.

The gov took away the V8 races because of the noise complaints and traffic disruptions from the nearby residents, and partly the financial losses.

Foreshore event will not be around next year because of the complaints about the rubbish. Again from the nearby residents who think the lake is their own private backyard.

When I lived in Gunghalin I never complianed about the road closures due to the Canberra Show or the Summernats. Why? I never went to either of them.

The difference is I am not a snobby shiny bum who feels compelled to complain about anything that slightly disrupts my life.
