Foreshore from the wrong shore, 2008

By johnboy - 29 November 2008 1

This afternoon the southern shore of Lake Burley Griffin was filled with tentage, amplifiers, and lovers of repetitive electronic music.

On the northern sure the music was coming across loud and clear. Wedding car drivers stood around talking about their cars. Dog walkers stared in bewilderment at the source of all the racket, and ducks and swans were occasionally alarmed by rogue beach balls coming across the water.

The reverb off the concrete of Commonwealth Place sounded like quite something from a distance. Any attendees want to let us know what is was like there?

Here’s a snippet of the sound from the wrong sure if you want to have a listen.

The sound from the main stage at the event was superb. Enough bass to rattle your ribcage, but not enough to make you nauseous, punchy mids, and crystalline top-end.

The rain was slightly annoying, but provided an added bonus – during the Presets encore, the green lasers over the crowd were lighting up millions of individual drops like tiny green fireflies. Quite the sight to behold (and no, it wasn’t the result of anything chemical, though I’d imagine those in an altered state of mind would have found it even more amazingly cool.)

Kudos to the organisers – it was very efficiently and professionally run. The crowd were good too, the number of drunk tards and coked up shirtless angrybois was fairly small.

I’ll be back next year.
