Former ACT chief minister and self-confessed animal lover Katy Gallagher has joined the RSPCA ACT as a new board member.

The ousted Labor senator is one of four new members to fill the vacancies on the RSPCA ACT board, joining Chris Collins (property and construction project professional at JLL), Michelle Bennett (executive general manager of the Airservices CSE group) and Viki Press (public servant).

Ms Gallagher currently shares her kids and home with “Pip,” and 19-year old “Monty,” both of whom she adopted from RSPCA ACT.

RSPCA ACT President Jeffery Butler welcomed the four new members, who will join the board on their mission to prevent cruelty to animals in the Territory.

“On behalf of the RSPCA ACT Board, we’re excited to welcome four outstanding individuals to join our team and look forward to collaborating with them further in the future,” Mr Butler said.

“The four new appointees are from a diverse array of backgrounds, and all have vital experience that will help us engage with both the community and local government.

“Together, we hope to continue the good work of the RSPCA and to assist the Shelter’s core mission: ‘To prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection’.”

The new appointees will join the current elected board members: President Jeffery Butler, Vice President Sara Goldsworthy and Board members, Robert McMahon, Dr Bernie Towler and Alexandra Wedutenko.

Ms Gallagher’s new role at the RSPCA ACT coincides with her new position as a service development consultant for the Little Company of Mary Health Care.

With the departure of CEO Tammy Ven Dange on June 30, the RSPCA ACT Board will announce her replacement in the near future.

This is great news – looking forward to Katie’s advocacy against the live sheep trade once she’s back in parliament.
