Foul footy food

Pizza – how can you go wrong? Easy at Bruce Stadium.

Take a ( probably frozen) parbaked circle of dough, top it with ersatz tomato gloop, and a few slices of ham like substance sliced so thin you could read contract fine print through it; completely destroy any integrity in a microwave and $ 8.50 thank you very much!

Yeah , I know, I should have spat the dummy/pizza, but, at half time and mind numbed by half a dozen beers the need for blotting paper was imperative. A few more $6.00 cans of beer and a Raiders win did improve the evening. Geez, it’s hard enough being a Raiders supporter without soggy effing pizza.

Whatever you do, don’t try the Mexican place out at Canberra Stadium. The Burritos are stale tortillas filled with vomit.

Understatement. I had one bite of these before it ended up in the bin. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog.

What is with people in Australia suddenly trying to make Mexican food anyway? It’s amazing how badly wrong they can get such simple food. Burritos and tacos etc are street vendor food in Mexico, should be perfect for serving at sporting events, except if made by clueless who should be kept away from food and stoves.

Normally I would ask for a screen shot or source, but you made me lol.

Plus I know how gross bad white person Mexican can be.

NOBODY EAT VOMIT WRAPPED IN STALE TORTILLA AKA ECENT BURRITOS

I’d say that it could only be a good thing they are now serving pizza at the footy, but it’s obviously not.

Your comments are too true. Pies too hot, overpriced or not available.

And who ever told anyone that it’s acceptable to not butter the hot dog roll?

Overpriced amatuers.

I self-cater when I go to these types of events; buns (buttered), chicken, coleslaw. Bland, but can’t go wrong.

OMG THIS

Any food vendor who wants to sell hot dogs and then do not butter the bread need to lose a hand!

You can thank the Gema Group for the tasty menu and quality. They are the same group who thought it would be wonderful to not supply meat pies at the recent NAB cup game at Manuka Oval.

Gema also did Canberra day I believe.

They have done fantastic catering in VIP areas in the past IIRC.

I was up at Cronulla for round one and the food was friggin’ amazing. I was stunned by the quality, but I’ve only had Bruce and Parramatta to compare against. Heading up again for Saturdays match, can’t wait to eat the grease!

Sad thing is that a cheap and quality pizza is so easy to make it’s a crime they f***ed it up.

I think the OP is saying the pizza was a supermarket type frozen item. Excellent use of the word “ersatz” though…

I once spent $22 (circa 2002) on two four and twenty pies & two bottles of water at the MCG. The water was ok but the pies had been microwaved and were roaring hot on the outside and frozen in the middle. I have never bought food from there aver again.

Same thing here, when we used to go the the Brumbies pre-kids I used to buy the villies pies & they were crap as well.

I only now buy alcohol at these events, nothing else, especially for the prices they charge.

I’m afraid the only way you’ll get decent food at Canberra Stadium is to become a member of the stadium and hire a corporate box. I don’t hear many well-moneyed business types complaining about the food.

The cost of food at events is insane. Esp when most forbid outside food to be brought in.

I hold a Raiders season pass and very rarely will I spend money at the stadium. I try and eat beforehand and take my own drink. Which then causes issues trying to get into the stadium. On Sunday evening I had a store bought refillable water bottle filled with water which they asked me to throw out. Not just empty it but throw the whole thing out.

Since I wasn’t prepared to throw out my water bottle and pay $5 to buy water inside, I gave the guard a funny look and kept walking.

Still confused at the issue.

People can take in thermos filled with tea/coffee/wine but not water bottles ?

The $10 Hawaiian Pizza at the Government House open day was quite ordinary.

Mr Ate came home from the football on Sunday excited about the win but also because he bought a hotdog with cheese, sauce and mustard for $6.50. Plus they didnt charge extra for the cheese and sauces. Apparently thats a pretty good deal these days.

I’d say that it could only be a good thing they are now serving pizza at the footy, but it’s obviously not.

It’s happening quite a bit around town, organisers of events give out a tender to some mob to have a monopoly on the food and/or coffee and/or grog, and stand back.

We were at the plant event at Lanyon on the weekend, run by Open Gardens, it’s every year and there’s stalls with decent tools and weird plants. But they’d given the only espresso rights to some mob who made the most disgusting coffee, my flat white came with a very custard-like skin, but whether there was any coffee in that milk is debateable. Your burning hands through the ultra-thin cups took your mind off that a bit.

I know there’s heaps of people in town who’ve bought coffee vans/trailers, and are always looking for events to sell coffee at, but when it’s apparent that organisers want to charge them for the privilege, you end up with expensive food and drink, not enough of it, and no choice. Viz the Canberra Day debacle by the lake.

What we need is some pirate food and drink sellers.
