Who said Canberra doesn’t have a creative heart and soul?

On Tuesday, four finalists from Canberra were announced at the annual Movie Extra Tropfest short film festival which demonstrates the pool of talent lurking in the national capital.

Shannon Wilson and Duane Fogwell, finalists in 2009, named their film Fishlips and is a story about love, about family, fish fingers and a game called Yahtzee!

Liam Newton’s film, Awakening, is an animated feature and, as Liam says, ‘Is much easier to work with than live actors.’

Scott Holgate and Tony Nicholl’s film, Every Second Weekend shows there’s three sides to every story – his, hers, and the truth and, somewhere along the journey, we come to that truth.

TropJunior finalists are Justin Westlake and Declan Green with their film, Behind the Groups; from Nerds to Air Heads, there are so many different groups at school and they all think and act quite differently. Then there is Ian Smith who does not fit into any of these groups and never will.

The finalists films – all 16 of them – will be screened at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park on Sunday 21st February so come and support this hot, local talent.

Tropfest is free, starts at 3pm, plenty of delicious food available on-site and more information available on http://www.events.act.gov.au/?/event/view/149

To have four finalists is outstanding and congratulations to them all!

A short update on the 2010 Tropfest Finalists……there are three from the National Capital, not four as originally announced…..seems someone forgot where they lived!

Anyway – three is an oustanding result and congratulations to Shannon and Duane, Tony and Scott, and Liam Newton……we’ll be there to cheer you to victory on the 21st February at Stage 88….

Well done people. There is proof that film industries aren’t going down the gurgler due to illegal downloading unlike what the Hollywood giants are telling us.
