The perils of using the hippest social media are ever greater when one is an ambitious young politician.

After Foursquare declared him the “Mayor of Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory” Andrew Barr has had to tweet thusly:

I hasten to add that “Mayor” is the title awarded by Foursquare for the person who visits a place the most.

I for one welcome our new Mayor.

Twitter I can understand, Facebook I can forgive… but Foursquare??? That’s just sad.

Four Square? That used to be a chain of convenience stores in the 1950s and ’60s.

I must be old and missing something. Is he mayor from 2 checkins on their website?

By all accounts, this method of deciding on work performance and promotions would certainly work better than past and present methods employed in the public service.
Might even be a viable way to elect local councils interstate.

See – that is how you stage a coup.

If only our convoy of no-confidence friends would use such methods.
