Fraxel laser?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering getting rid of my freckles and I’ve heard fraxel laser is the way to go (I’ve tried IPL but it didn’t help much). I know they offer this at the ‘Clear Complexions Clinic’. Has anyone been there? I can’t find any reviews of the place on the web and I’d like to get some ‘word of mouth’ recommendations to back up their glossy advertising. Or is there somewhere else I should try?

I have been going to the Laser skin clinic for years. It is a really lovely family owned business. Everyone that works there has been there for years- no revolving door like the other franchise based businesses.
I get everything done here- hair removal, skin rejuvenation, pigmentation removal and laser for Rosacea. I also see the cosmetic physician. You can get rid of for freckles easily using their Alexandrite laser and their Revlite laser – They do not use IPL ( this is really old technology and can actually cause pigmentation which is what happened to me at another clinic) They also offer Fraxel which I have had done once with excellent results. However this is a more expensive option. I have to say I am highly impressed with this place and the treatments offered. They will offer a free consultation and give you the best advice for you skin. I would definitely give them a go!! I hope this helps.

Some might accuse me of drifting slightly off topic here, but I reckon “Fraxel Laser” would be a great name for a band.

I would recommend seeing a cosmetic dermatologist rather than anyone less qualified for something as invasive as Fraxel. The cost is justified, it’s your face after all !

I got a fraxel treatment done as well. I pretty much had the same experience as Abby. My skin looks alot clearer now. I would recommend this treatment to others wishing to remove scarring and pigmentation on their skin. I am thinking of doing a second treatment in the next few months.

Freckles are fine, and I’m another staunch supporter of the natural look. Despite what women’s mags tell you, blokes don’t necessarily want some plastic-fantastic…

There is tonnes of stuff on fraxel laser on http://www.youtube.com

I have had the fraxel offered at Clear Complexions in Canberra and I found it brilliant. It’s massively easier than IPL which hurts like hell and can leave square burn marks all over you which I found out when I went to a different clinic. I don’t know how it works on freckes, they do charge 50 bucks for a consultation before you go and the treatment cost $1200. However it was well worth it and I would definitely have it again. My skin looked gorgeous after four days. It just feels like a prickly roller going over your skin, I had almost zero discomfort and the burny feeling afterwards was gone by the time I got home (30 minutes drive) and I didn’t use the ice packs they give you. Your face does swell on the third day but that’s just before it all starts getting really good. Four days and it’s all over. Your face is VERY red after the treatment, cools down in a couple of hours (it’s easy fair dinkum, if I can do it anyone can). Then your skin turns mottley and brown and you look a bit monster-like, third day swelling, fourth day, skin falls off – fifth day GORGEOUS. I just had it for pores and sun spots. There are three kinds of fraxel, they don’t have fraxel REPAIR in Canberra unfortunately. DOCTORS PLEASE GET IT!!!! That’s for saggy skin and stuff though and is much more severe.

Bumping this thread. Has anyone had any recent experiences with the CCC? I would love to hear how you went, especially if you had a fraxel treatment.

How did it go?

Thanks for your comments people, esp. the “freckles are cute” ones. I love that some people’s “flaws” are appealing to others. There’s hope for us all!
I don’t want to get rid of all of them (my husband would be a bit upset) but I have some big splotchy ones that I could do without. (that no amount of lemon juice or hiding indoors will help. Thanks anyway Bimbogeek, but I don’t fancy looking like a ghost for the rest of my life. A bit of sun now and then is good for you). And can I just let you all know, there is no freaking way I aim to look like Nicole Kidman. She looks like a waxworks model. Unhealthy.
I’ve booked in for the fraxel, so I’ll let you know how it goes!

I find Nicole Kidman scary looking.

I can’t understand why people think Nicole Kidman is beautiful? I guess if you like spakfilla and enamel paint jobs you could see something there but I’m afraid I can’t.

Have you tried lemon juice and just staying out of the sun? Because for the Nicole Kidman look, it’s not just one shot with a laser and you’re freckle-free for life, you actually have to maintain it. So you might as well maintain it naturally.

Lemon juice works for me, your mileage may vary. Those little bottles of concentrated lemon juice are even better. It exfoliates as well as bleaching so you need to be extra careful to keep that glowing white skin out of the sun!

All the more reason to keep them I’d say. After all, she also married Tom Cruise.

Nicole Kidman also married Tom Cruise. I would not be looking to her as a role model for making sensible decisions.

I will also put my hand up for the ‘freckles are cute’ vote, but ultimately it’s your body and your choice. I’d actually be interested in opinions on the results of the treatment too – for a friend, not myself – it’s going to take more than a laser to fix me 😉

Freckles on a woman are sexy.

I’ve been to Clear Complexions for other treatment, and yes they are very friendly and professional. Maybe a little bit on the expensive side, but I think IPL is expensive everywhere.

+1 to Troll and Pommy.

Freckles are cute! Why would you want to get rid of them?

troll-sniffer4:21 pm 13 May 10

Why? Freckles are cute. Give me natural any day.

Can’t help much with the Fraxel Laser part, but I have been to the Clear Complexions many times for other treatments and they’ve always been really good, good at looking at your skin and giving a realistic opinion of what will work and won’t. So they seem to know what they’re doing which is always a good start:-)
