As part of “Argentine Month in Canberra”, Tango in the Spring in association with University of Canberra and the Embassy of Argentina present the inspiring tango documentary film “Si Sos Brujo: Una Historia de Tango”.Friday 3 October, 6pm, University of Canberra (Building 2 Lecture theatre 2B11).

And after the film, you can sample some complimentary Argentine wine and and snacks. And you can catch a glimpse of social Argentine Tango dancing next door in the refectory, where the 3-day festival of tango “Tango in the Spring” gets underway with a Milonga – a tango social tango dance from 8pm.

“A heartfelt inspiring film that could do for Argentine Tango what the Buena Vista Social Club did for the music of Cuba. This beautifully shot documentary captures the compelling story of a group of young Argentine musicians racing to learn and preserve the elegant and nuanced music played by the legendary Golden Age tango orchestras of Buenos Aires in the 40’s and 50’s. For those familiar with the names of Pugliese Triolo and Piazzolla this film is essential viewing. It also has broad appeal as anyone interested in the creative musical process will love Si Sos Brujo. In Spanish with English subtitles. Running Time: 79 Mins.” – amazon.com

Featuring music by El Arranque Tango Orchestra & Ramiro Gallo Quintet.

There’s a podcast interview with the director here.
