free burrito day

After you all got very excited about Free Burrito Day we have the bad news it’s been delayed:

Hi John,
We were really looking forward to GYG Canberra opening this week but unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances and a bit of bad luck we’ve had to delay our opening.

Our Free Burrito Day at GYG Canberra will now be Thursday 16th August, 11am-8pm.

Hope to see you all there to help us celebrate!

Regards,
Alison

I miss Viva Zapata. That guy was so lovely. When his daughter wasn’t around to help we often had to tally up our bill and count out our change for him!

Real mole sauce. Real tortilla. Proper refried beans. No cheddar cheese. No kidney beans. No corn chips… Mmm hmm. I’m salivating all over my desk!

The only Canberra restaurant that went even close to offering Mexican food rather than Rex-Mex was Viva Zapata, when it was at the O’Connor shops. The ill fated move to Civic (on Northbourne) seemed to kill it off.

Some of their dishes were much closer to real Mexican. Even in the USA you have to look hard to find real Mexican food in most states. SoCal has heaps, but there are a lot of people even there who think that Mexican food is toothpaste-smooth guacomole, cornchips, tacos etc. Certainly this forms a part of Mexican food, same as a BBQ and salad does in Australia, but especially from southern Mexico there is a range of great food that we hardly ever see here.

JB ! Such a bummer.. GYG tweeted this days ago… I was soooo disappointed

I want my free burrito ! Lol
